Coronation Street legend Martin Platt was set to make a comeback as part of Gail Platt’s exit storyline later this year.
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Coronation Street.
Coronation Street fans are disappointed to learn that Sean Wilson will now not be returning as Martin Platt but why the change of plans?
Martin Platt (played by Sean Wilson) originally joined the ITV soap in 1985 and was Gail Platt’s (Helen Worth) second husband and father to David Platt (Jack P Shepherd).
He was last seen on the cobbles in 2018 just before moving to New Zealand with his then-girlfriend Robyn (Clare Calbraith) and their daughter Charlotte.
It came out last month that Martin was to return as part of Gail’s exit storyline at the end of the year with him initially showing up as a surprise visit for David.
Unfortunately, it has since been reported that this storyline has been scrapped and all the scenes that Wilson had already filmed will now no longer air.

Why is Martin Platt no longer returning to Coronation Street?
Coronation Street fans were excited for Wilson to reprise his role as Martin Platt but it was the actor’s decision to take a sudden step back.
An ITV spokesperson simply stated: “Sean Wilson has stepped down from filming for personal reasons.”
A representative of the 59-year-old then backed this up: “Sean left for personal reasons and we’ve no further comment to make.”
It remains unclear exactly why he chose to leave before the scenes aired but Wilson previously shared how much he was looking forward to his return.

Earlier this year, Wilson said: “Playing Martin has been a joy since day one and, in a way, I’ll be slipping back to where I left off, which no doubt will throw a spanner into the heart of the Platt family.”
It is also not known now exactly how Gail will leave the soap as it was thought she was to make her exit with Martin by her side.
However, producer Iain MacLeod has already confirmed that Gail is not going to be killed off, much to fans’ relief.
Coronation Street is available to watch three times a week on ITV.
