Emmerdale’s Amelia Spencer actress Daisy Campbell spoke about her ‘sad’ exit from the ITV soap after 13 years, sharing her disappointment over being written out
Emmerdale character Amelia Spencer has left the ITV soap following a dramatic twist.
In emotional scenes which aired on Friday, Daisy’s character departed the Yorkshire village – as her on-screen father, Daz Spencer made his return after five years away. Despite Amelia not seemingly being in contact with him, she and Daz revealed they’d actually remained in touch and had gotten closer. Now, Amelia planned to move away with her daughter Esther, to live with Daz.
Daisy Campbell previously told The Mirror she was “so sad” to leave, after we exclusively confirmed the departure in October. Speaking previously, Daisy shared more about her final storyline on the show as she prepares to bow out after 13 years.
Speaking to The Mirror and other press, she confirmed she was left “grieving” over the news she would be written out of the show, which she joined when she was seven years old. Sharing her “mixed emotions” about her final scenes airing, she once again discussed her upset over leaving after a “tough year”.
Teasing new twists as she shared how her character would bow out, Daisy shared her hopes for the future as she talked about her tear-jerking goodbye to her co-stars. She said: “It feels really sad. It’s mixed emotions really I think. It’s been such a tough year, and I’ve had to deal with so much, but I was so at peace when leaving because I’ve grieved.
“I’m not only grieving for myself, it’s a character that I’ve always played. This is my first ever job from being seven, so it felt really sad. But then it was nice to close the door and be at peace, because I’ve just allowed it to play out as it has this year.
“But yeah, it’s really upsetting, because it’s all I’ve ever known, but I mean new things and maybe new parts next year. Who knows? But yeah, it’s been sad. It’s been really sad.”

On her emotional exit plot, she revealed: “It was weird, because we film in two-week blocks. So, the first week was really emotional, because Mark Jordon who plays Daz came back. It was lovely to see him again. That was really emotional and whenever I work with Laura Norton, who plays Kerry Wyatt, she’s so good at doing emotions.
“The way she cries, I cry. But then the second week, I think I was used to it, because I was really dreading my last block, because I hate crying in front of people unless it’s for a scene. I didn’t really cry that much. I was actually proud of myself. I was like, ‘Oh, I’ve not got teary once this week.’ But yeah, it was emotional, really emotional.”
She also revealed what it was like leaving her close friends she’s worked with for so long. She told us: “I was so sad. It’s weird because me and my friends, me, Eden, Issy, Rosie, Katie, Jack and everyone, I’ve been to drama school with them. We know each other more outside of the soap.
“We never work together, so we’re always going to see each other all the time – we were literally out last night. But again, it’s just emotional, it’s weird, because it felt like I wasn’t saying goodbye, but I was.
“Then on my last day, I finished earlier than everyone else but I couldn’t leave the dressing room. I was like, ‘I’m gonna leave in 10 minutes.’ And I couldn’t leave, I kept putting it off. It was sad, but I know I’m gonna see everyone, and I’m gonna stay in touch, especially with my friends.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
