The actor took over the role of David Platt’s step-son Max in a re-casting back in 2021 but he’s now bowed out of Weatherfield
It’s been no secret that Coronation Street star Paddy Bever has decided to leave the show and spoiler warning – Max Turner’s fate has now been confirmed.
The actor took over the role of David Platt’s step-son Max, the son of his late wife Kylie Platt, from Harry McDermott, who played the role from 2010 but left to continue with his acting studies and explore other opportunities, in a re-casting back in 2021.
He quickly found himself involved some of the soap’s most controversial storylines, including where Max was groomed by a far-right gang before he ultimatley helped stop a bomb going off in the middle of the Street.
But Max is now set to face time once again, this time for starting the fire that saw the Platts’ beloved family home destroyed. In scenes aired in February, a rag soaked in petrol was posted through the house’s front door along with some lit matches.
The family was soon alerted to the fire by their neighbours as it quickly took hold. With David not around and fearing Lily was in the house, Shona Platt and Max Turner headed inside with Nick Tilsley, who was left rescuing an unconscious Toyah Habeeb, who had been attacked by Abi Webster.
But Shona and Max were quickly left trapped inside the empty house and while Shona managed to escape, with her horrified husband David waiting on the other side, Max was left stuck as the house exploded. He was later pulled from the burning property and was rushed to hospital where he was placed in a coma.
Luckily, the teen survived but once awake, Max soon faced Shona’s wrath as she discovered it was him who set their home alight as he attempted to help David with the money he owes gangster Harvey Gaskell.

The police soon discovered the truth and during Monday’s (March 3) episode of Corrie, which was made available on ITVX at 7am before airing on ITV at 8pm, Max was in court to recieve his sentance. The judge took into account Max’s apparent remorse and guilty plea but with that alongside his premeditated actions and suspended sentence didn’t bode well for the teen.
The judge revealed that Max would be spending six and a half years behind bars. He was left shocked by the outcome and called out to David, who was in the public gallery, for support.
It comes after Paddy confirmed he had made the ‘difficult decision’ to call time on his soap role after four years. The 22-year-old said in a statement to the Mirror: “After much reflection and in an incredibly difficult decision, I have chosen to step away from Max, and Coronation Street, to explore new opportunities.
“I have been surrounded by such kindness and support every step of the way.” He continued: “It’s been a great privilege to contribute to the legacy of such a well-loved and iconic show. This chapter has been unforgettable and while I look forward to what lies ahead, I will treasure these memories.”

Meanwhile, Paddy’s co-stars have also been talking about his exit for the first time. Julia Goulding, who plays Shona, told the Manchester Evening News: “Devastated. I love Paddy so much and I could actually be his mother, it’s ridiculous. But I think he’s got a very bright future ahead of him.”
She shared: “I’d love to see him at some point maybe come back but I don’t know where his life is going to take him,” before adding his exit was “bittersweet.”
Taking part in an Instagram Q&A Cait Fitton, who plays Max’s girlfriend Lauren Bolton in the soap, was asked about Paddy’s upcoming exit as she shared her emotional thoughts for the first time.
One of her followers asked: “Are you going to miss Paddy so much and do you think Max will come back?” While she didn’t hint at the future, Cait replied: “I do miss my @paddybever [face holding back tears and red heart emojis].”
Another also asked: “Do you miss working with Paddy? What was your favourite scenes you had with him?” As she shared a clip of a scene the pair shared in the aftermath of Joel’s death in Corrie, Cait commented: “This scene will always be my favourite Lax scene [crying face and broken heart emojis].”
