Emmerdale has aired hard-hitting scenes this week in the village.

Soap watchers will recall that Anthony Fox made his Dales debut last year, rocking up as the estranged father of Ruby Fox-Miligan.

However, with Anthony’s arrival, Ruby started to spiral as it was clear she was hiding something about her dad. Distressed by her father’s arrival, troubled Ruby even ended up cheating on husband Caleb with his half-brother Cain Dingle.

Eventually, it was sadly revealed that Anthony had sexually abused Ruby and it was heavily implied that he was actually Ruby and Caleb’s daughter Steph’s biological dad.

Only recently, Ruby confided in sister-in-law Chas Dingle about not knowing who Steph’s real father is to which Ruby ordered a DNA test kit. This week, she found out the results which confirmed Caleb wasn’t Steph’s dad – meaning it was Anthony.

Caleb later found the results, leaving him heartbroken. Ruby didn’t reveal the full truth though about Anthony’s abuse – and unaware of the full story, Caleb kicked her out.

However, it wasn’t long until Chas picked up that Anthony had abused Ruby and was the father of Steph as she told Caleb, reflecting on her own experiences with son Aaron Dingle, who had been sexually abused by his father, Gordon.

On Friday’s episode, which was available to watch at 7am on ITV X and airs at 7:30pm on ITV, Caleb was upset as he opened up to Chas, asking how he hadn’t spotted any signs to protect Ruby.

This forced Chas to reflect on her own experiences with son Aaron and his biological father Gordon as she comforted her distraught brother.

For longtime soap watchers, viewers will remember the hard-hitting Aaron and Gordon storyline but for new viewers, here’s a look at the storyline that has been revisited.

In past episodes, Aaron opened up on the historic child sexual abuse he suffered at the hands of his dad Gordon, where his family were left horrified.

It tragically led to Aaron’s self-harm battle, and when he finally and bravely confirmed his ordeal, he was encouraged to tell the police.

Despite Gordon denying everything and trying to make it seem Aaron was making it up, his family saw through it, and the police.

Gordon faced trial over the accusations, and Aaron bravely took to the stand to share his story. Gordon was convicted of all four charges brought against him, he was sentenced to eighteen years imprisonment. Gordon ended his life while in prison and he was last seen on the soap in 2016.
