Vicky Myers has been involved in some of Coronation Street’s most explosive storylines but she has worked hard to get there
Vicky Myers has appeared on Coronation Street as detective DS Lisa Swain since May 2021. Since joining the cobbles, the actress has been involved in many major storylines. From apprehending Coronation Street legend Roy Cropper on suspicion of murder to investigating Stephen Reid’s campaign of terror. And more recently, helping to unmask the killer of soap villain Joel Deering despite being a suspect herself.
One of the storylines that has kept viewers on their toes is the detectives ongoing rollercoaster of a relationship with Carla Connor. Lisa was able to reassure Carla of her feelings last week and the pair shared a kiss.
Off our screens, Vicky has shared her brave battle with cancer and her challenging divorce. The star has not had the most straight-forward career and many factors led to her taking a break from acting for a prolonged period.
Aside from Coronation Street you may have seen the actor in a number of other roles without realising, but her most notable roles is arguably the one she is in now as Lisa Swain. Below is everything to know about the soap star.
Vicky Myers career including other soap appearances
Since joining Coronation Street in 2021 as Lisa Swain, Vicky Myers has been a favourite among viewers with her portrayal of the determined soap detective. Her character is often at the forefront of many gripping storylines from crime to love and this has kept audiences hooked.
In 2016, she landed her big break in the Harlan Coben series The Five, followed by Channel 4’s Ackley Bridge and The Long Shadow. In 2018, Vicky Myers played Heidi Regan, a cosmetic surgery addict and mother to seven-year-old Disney, a wannabe pageant queen on the BBC television drama Age Before Beauty. In the show, she appeared alongside Emmerdale’s Lisa Riley, known for playing Mandy Dingle. The two acted the roles of sisters on the drama.
To the surprise of many Corrie fans recently, a sharp-eyed viewer discovered Vicky had previously appeared on the cobbles as a completely different character. In a TikTok video, one fan shared a clip of the actress on Corrie back in 2010. The TV star portrayed a driver who was stopped by Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) to call for help after his wife Molly (Vicky Bins) was trapped following their car crash.
Health battle
In an interview with Mirror Online, Vicky opened on the breakdown of her marriage. She said it was a difficult period in her life as she was also rocked by the news she had cancer in 2010. She received her diagnosis by chance when she was taking her nephew for a medical check up. She said: “As we turned to leave, the doctor said, ‘Can I have a look at that mark on your leg?’ Within five days I was in hospital.
“I was wearing three-quarter length combat trousers that day. You can roll them up into shorts, which I did in the car just before the appointment, because it was a really hot June day. It’s quite incredible to think that if it had been a miserable day the doctor would never have seen the little dark mark on my calf. I definitely had an angel watching over me that day.” Doctors discovered it was skin cancer and her ex helped her look after Meghan as she recovered from reconstructive surgery.
Speaking about her cancer diagnosis, Vicky said: “When my husband and I split up, I was quite down, bitter and vengeful, and when I was told I had [cancer], I remember thinking, ‘If this is it for me, I’ve missed out on all this time with my daughter and I haven’t really been the best person that I wanted to be.”
She added: “The diagnosis re-centred me and made me focus on what is really important and what makes me happy. Now, every time I go into work and see the Coronation Street sign, it’s quite overwhelming.” This came after Vicky fell out of love with acting after her treatment and took a job at a casting agency.
