‘Really upsetting’: Emmerdale star ‘grieving’ over exit after ‘tough year’

Daisy Campbell has opened up about her forthcoming Emmerdale exit, admitting she has ‘grieved’ through the process.

The actress is set to leave her role as Amelia Spencer after 13 years later this month, as having played the character since she was seven years old.

Her exit will come as Belle Dingle’s (Eden Taylor-Draper) abuse storyline reaches its conclusion, as her abuser Tom King (James Chase) – who Amelia has been dating – faces justice.

‘It feels really sad,’ Daisy told Metro. ‘It’s mixed emotions really. It’s been such a tough year, and I’ve had to deal with so much, but I was so at peace when leaving because I’ve grieved.

“I’m not only grieving for myself, it’s a character that I’ve always played, this is my first ever job from being seven, so it felt really sad. But then it was nice to close the door and be at peace, because I’ve just allowed it to play out as it has this year.

But yeah, it’s really upsetting, because it’s all I’ve ever known.

‘I mean new things and maybe new parts next year. Who knows?’

Daisy said she wants to ‘carry on’ with acting, admitting she is ‘really excited to see what comes my way and what opportunities arise’, calling it ‘a perfect age to leave’ and find out.

‘I just want to see what I’m like on another set. I don’t know what that’s like,’ she explained.  ‘This is all I’ve ever known.

‘So, next year will be the year to really push myself, which I’m really looking forward to.

‘I’m really open to doing anything. I’d love to do plays. I’d love to tour. I’d love to do new dramas, films, low-budget stuff, literally anything. I just feel like the world’s my oyster.’

She also has her eyes on one show away from acting – Strictly Come Dancing.

‘That’s one thing I really want to do next year, because I’m a dancer,’ she said.

‘I’ve always danced since I was like three, and I don’t know how to do the salsa or anything, so I think that’d be cool to learn.’

During her last day on set, Daisy also managed to steal a few items to remember her time on the soap by.

She revealed: ‘[I took my] cover coats, we have our names on the back. So, I took them because no one’s gonna be wearing my name!

‘I took all my costumes because I like Amelia’s jackets, I took all them!’

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1 or stream first from 7am on ITVX.
