Major Corrie character devastated as controversial loved one is rushed to hospital

Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) is left devastated in Coronation Street next week, when she finds out her imprisoned son Clayton Hibbs (Callum Harrison) is rushed to hospital in a serious condition.

Fans of the ITV soap will remember that Clayton stabbed David’s (Jack P Shepherd) wife Kylie (Paula Lane) to death in broad daylight back in 2016, and has been behind bars ever since.

Shona last saw her son in 2020, following her memory loss, when Clayton tried to make her believe David – who she’d since married – was a bad man and she was in a vulnerable position.

While he ultimately didn’t succeed in turning his mum against her husband, the couple made a pact never to speak about Clayton again.

However, last week’s episodes saw David get a shock when he answered a call and Clayton was on the end of the line.

On Monday, David confides in brother Nick Tisley (Ben Price) after Clayton issues David with a visiting order. Nick advises him to come clean to Shona as she’s bound to find out in the long run.

However, he ignores his brother’s advice and heads to see Clayton in prison behind Shona’s back.

Later in the week, David finds Shona in a terrible state as she reveals that she had a visit from the police and Clayton is in hospital.

Revealing what happens next, actress Julia Goulding says: ‘Shona races home in a blind panic, is upset and apprehensive to even mention Clayton in front of David.

‘They’ve got lots going on in the family, but seeing Clayton becomes her priority so she races to hospital. She doesn’t think twice about that.’

Julia reveals that Shona is ‘confused’ to find out that Clayton and the prison tried to contact her, not realising David blocked their attempts.

‘Clayton doesn’t want to see her and is very angry,’ she says. ‘He screams at her to get out, she can’t understand why and just wants to be with her son.

‘At this point she knows he has tried to take his own life but cant work out why and why she wasn’t told. It is scary, it brings back a lot of the memory loss stuff.’

With it being a matter of time before the truth comes out, Julia reveals it could have a devastating impact on Shona and David’s marriage.

She adds: ‘When Shona finds out her husband has been gaslighting her and had a part in Clayton trying to take his own life, I dread to think what she’s going to do. But I don’t think she’ll take it lying down!’

Coronation Street airs these scenes from Monday 11 November at 8pm on ITV1 and from 7am on ITVX.
