Fan-favourite Coronation Street couple Carla Connor (Alison King) and Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) officially made their relationship public in tonight’s episode – though not everyone was happy about it.
Last week, Lisa was left feeling hurt when Carla failed to correct Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) when she referred to them as ‘girly pals’.
When Carla later asked to keep their relationship on the down-low until she felt ready to come out, Lisa agreed.
However, when Lisa reacted badly to a client flirting with her, Carla made it clear that she wouldn’t put up with any possessiveness or jealousy.
As Lisa apologised, she admitted that she felt insecure having to hide their relationship, as she worried that Carla was ashamed to be with her.
Carla assured her that that wasn’t the case, and promised to be open about their relationship from now on.
However, in today’s episode, Carla’s attempt at being ‘out and proud’ backfired when her announcement of their relationship to the Underworld staff left Lisa annoyed.
Talk about mixed messages!
With rumours already circulating the factory floor thanks to LGBTQIA+ ally Sally Webster (Sally Dynevor), Carla interrupted Lisa’s rant about daughter Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) to confirm to her staff that they were seeing each other.
When Betsy made a snarky comment about the announcement, Lisa left in a huff.
Later, Carla pulled Betsy into her office to apologise for broadcasting their family affairs to the world, revealing that Lisa had pointed out that whatever they did would reflect on the teenager.
In a bid to build bridges between them all, Carla invited Betsy to join her and Lisa on their date night.
Though at first Lisa was upset by the intrusion of Betsy’s date Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan), a firm but fair pep-talk from Carla encouraged her to try and make an effort.
Is Carla set to help Lisa and Betsy finally find common ground?
