Lynne McGranger ‘set to marry her partner of 40 years’ after leaving Home and Away

Home and Away stalwart Lynne McGranger announced last month she was leaving the iconic soap after three decades.

And it appears the actress, 72, isn’t planning on putting her feet up, with sources claiming she could be planning to finally tie the knot with her long-term partner Paul McWaters.

The couple have been together for more than 40 years and share one daughter, Clancy, 29.

A close friend of the soap star’s told New Idea that, with Lynne no longer tied down to Home and Away filming commitments, a walk down the aisle could very well be on the cards.

‘Lynne used to joke that she and Paul would tie the knot when their daughter Clancy go married. She thought the idea of a double wedding was hilarious,’ the close pal revealed.

‘But Clancy got married in August 2023 and her parents stubbornly kept their de facto status.’

‘But all that could change now Lynne has more time on her hands. Watch this space.’

While Lynne has kept her relationship out of the public eye, she revealed to New Idea back in 2014, how love blossomed between the couple.

‘I invited him round to my place in 1984 [after having dinner together] and he never went home. Still hasn’t,’ she said at the time.

Lynne added that while she was still waiting for Paul to propose, she was in no rush to tie the knot.

‘We always joke and say we’ll do it when we want some white goods, and I’m here to tell you now, we need a new washing machine,’ she joked.

It comes after Lynne, who played beloved battler Irene Roberts, revealed she was leaving Home And Away after three decades.

Making the announcement last month Lynne said her departure from Summer Bay way ‘bittersweet.’

‘After almost 33 years in my dream role and working everyday with people who I love, respect and whom I now consider family,’ she said. in a statement.

‘It’s bittersweet to be closing the chapter on what has been the best and longest gig of my life.

‘I am forever grateful to the best production crew in the world and to our genius writers – whose doors are always open – for everything they have done for Irene over the past 33-odd years’ she continued.

‘And I am so proud of the storyline which will see Irene out of the Bay. Above all, a massive, heartfelt thank you to the fans for your continued love and support.’

The beloved soap star said she recently told the heartbreaking news to her cast mates on the Home and Away set.

‘It means a lot that my friendship and Irene has been such an important part in the lives of people in and around Summer Bay both on screen and behind the scenes,’ she said in an interview with the Daily Telegraph in February.

Commenting on her reasons for leaving the show Lynne said: ‘It’s kind of been in my head for a few years, where I thought, I’ve still got my health, my fitness, and I would like to branch out again and do some more theatre, maybe a bit of radio, a bit of stand up comedy.

‘You either leave voluntarily or leave in a box by the time you’re my age,’ she joked.

‘I’m not going to live forever, particularly if I keep doing 14-hour days.

Elsewhere in the chat Lynne, who first appeared as Irene in January 1993, said that she will film her last scenes in March.

Lynne took over the role of Irene from actress Jacquy Phillips and went on to play the part for an impressive 33 years.

The veteran actress is one of the longest-serving stars on the Australian soap.
