Jeff Hordley’s Emmerdale fear as legendary character Cain Dingle faces ‘uncertain future’

Natalie J Robb has spoken about her experiences working with her on-screen partner Jeff Hordley

A reveal has been made about Emmerdale legend Jeff Hordley being scared on-set as spoilers suggest his character faces an uncertain future.

The admission has come from Natalie J Robb, 49, who plays Cain Dingle’s partner Moira. And, of course, all Emmerdale fans know Jeff Hordley, 54, portrays Cain in the ITV soap.

Following Moria’s brain tumour diagnosis, viewers have seen her and Cain share some deeply challenging scenes. Moira will soon go under the knife for surgery in a special episode of Emmerdale.

Spoilers suggest we’ll see that Cain can’t deal with the threat of losing Moira and is tormented alone in the garage, he struggles to face the uncertain future. Discussing doing her recent scenes with Jeff, Natalie, appearing at an Emmerdale press event, said: “He (Cain) is very scared. It is a big thing. Moira is absolutely terrified. She’s scared she’ll never see her kids again and she’s already experienced loss. She doesn’t want to abandon her kids.”

Later, Natalie was asked about some of her most challenging scenes during her time in Emmerdale, in light of her current Moira storyline. She made a revelation about co-star Jeff and a fearful experience.

Natalie explained: “I think the Holly death as well (as Moira’s brain tumour storyline). Because I don’t have children in real life I had to find the truth in that.”

She added: “I think Holly, then this. I think Moira has had quite a lot of full-on things. If it isn’t that then I’m doing a lot of stunt work. There’s a thing about fires in barns. I love all that and the underwater stuff – that was really challenging.

“Physically as well as mentally. Jeff and I were a wee bit scared doing that.

“When they took us under the water, they take the mouthpiece off and leave you there. It is quite a depth you are at. I’d say those, a combination. When I’ve had a big story, they have always been challenging and enjoyable.”

Natalie referred to Jeff as ‘her buddy’ when asked what makes the chemistry between characters Moria and Cain so good. The acting star was also insistent in wishing that, despite their up-and-down relationship, the Emmerdale couple stay together for good.

Natalie said: “I think it is really important that they stay together. Marriages go through things. There’s temptation and things can happen. If everybody just gave up after the first hurdle then people would just not get married now. It is so easy to get out of marriages now.”
