ITV Emmerdale’s Amy star admits why she’ll keep ‘keen eye’ on soap after heartbreaking exit

Natalie Ann Jamieson’s became the third confirmed death in the Dales last week

Emmerdale star Natalie Ann Jamieson revealed the reason she’ll be keeping a “keen eye” on the ITV soap after her exit was aired in recent episodes.

Natalie Ann Jamieson starred as Amy Wyatt (now Barton) since 2019 when the character was brought back onto the soap. Chelsea Halfpenny had played Amy for three years between 2010 and 2013.

Her exit from the show came after she was killed in the Valentine’s Day limo crash. After being plunged into the freezing cold lake as the ice broke beneath her feet, Amy was rushed to hospital where doctors tried their best to revive her.

Sadly, she suffered from a cardiac arrest after severe hypothermia as Matty and Kerry broke down and sobbed by her bedside.

Amy is currently the only character who knew of Nate Robinson’s body floating at the bottom of the lake, and although she tried to tell Matty before she died, he struggled to understand her.

At 17-years-old, Amy gave birth to her son Kyle but decided to give him up for adoption. She later decided to rekindle her relationship with her biological son, and tried to gain custody of him.

Matty Barton married Amy Wyatt on the show in 2024 who got engaged the year before while the pair were at The Woolpack pub. Amy originally proposed but Matty was originally concerned she only did so to strengthen her custody case for Kyle. However, the pair soon worked out any differences and have been happy since they made their vows.

Huey Quinn, who plays the role of Kyle Winchester, took to Instagram to post a tribute to his on-screen mum as she left the Dales. Natalie reposted on her own stories and wrote: “Thank you my lovely, getting to work with Huey these last six years has genuinely been one of the best bits of my job, love that little lad so much! He’s a superstar!”.

In a later story she added: “I will be keeping a keen eye on @emmerdale for all Kyle stories and watching like a proud mother!!”.

Before her exit, Amy and Matty had plans to adopt another child and were ready to take the next step in their relationship. Now that Amy won’t be returning to the Dales, this adoption plan has been thwarted but one fan on a Facebook fan group suggested: “What if Matty tries to adopt Kyle?” as another fan replied: “Hmmm maybe.”

Emmerdale airs on weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
