Emmerdale’s PC Swirling made an admission about John Sugden this week that confirmed he was hiding something from Aaron Dingle after a dramatic twist on the ITV soap
Emmerdale’s John Sugden was rumbled this week, as one character exposed something he was hiding.
The character did something behind the backs of Aaron Dingle, Mackenzie Boyd, Ross Barton, Billy Fletcher and newcomer Jade that may actually have saved a life. But it will also bring fresh trouble to their doors, especially after a twist involving Mack at the end of the week.
The group were once again caught up in the ITV soap’s unlicensed boxing storyline, with villain Jade forcing Billy and Ross to have a rematch. They both wanted out of the dodgy scheme, but Jade threatened their families.
As the latest fight got underway things got out of control, as the police suddenly descended on the venue and Aaron was seriously injured. Not only that but Mack stole the money from the fight, in a move that could spark danger for more than one character.
Former army medic John had arrived on the scene to warn everyone the police were on their way, causing panic as everyone fled. With Aaron attacked and fighting for his life on the floor after suffering from a collapsed lung, John stepped in to save his love interest’s life.

Aaron was rushed to hospital while Mack got away with the theft, for now. At the hospital a scene with PC Swirling and John made it clear the latter was hiding something from everyone. Amid speculation over his real identity and if he might be harbouring a secret, something did come out about the character.
PC Swirling soon exposed exactly what he was hiding, and it might land him in hot water. The police officer thanked John for his help, calling him an “informant”.
He revealed in the scene, with no one else around, that John had given him and the officers a tip-off about the fight that was going on. Knowing they would head to the scene to end the dangerous fight, with John not being keen with it going ahead in the first place, John told the police what they needed to know leading to the sudden arrival.
With the fight halted, Swirling praised John for what he did, exposing the fact it was John that called them. No one else knows this yet, while John was quick to deny he was an “informant” and claimed he was trying to prevent anyone from getting hurt. But is there more to the twist?
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays
