Emmerdale fans are convinced they’ve rumbled Joe Tate’s true plan for Kim Tate.
Only recently, Joe, played by Ned Porteous, made an explosive return to the hit ITV soap after six years as he was revealed as the mastermind behind financial advisor Pete and Will Taylor’s schemes against Kim Tate.
However, things took an even more dramatic turn on Christmas Day when following an argument with his wife Kim, Will passed away from a heart attack. The duo were due to have a vow renewal but Joe soon made a surprise appearance, revealing their scheme, as Kim demanded a private moment with Will.
During the chat, Will, who had tried to call off the plan and attempted to justify his actions, was left crushed when Kim dismissed his explanations and declared their marriage over. He suddenly collapsed, clutching his chest and knocking over the Christmas tree.
As he gasped for air, Kim initially suspected him of faking it and having a panic attack as she refused to help. Yet when Joe entered the room and pointed out he was having a heart attack, a devastated Kim jumped into action and did her best to try keep him alive.
However, sadly, it was too late and as the ambulance crew arrived, Will was tragically declared dead. During the police proceedings, Joe quickly appeared to protect Kim as he said Kim immediately jumped in to save Will and he had collapsed from singing Christmas carols.
Later, Kim asked Joe why he had protected her and lied to the police, sharing her suspicions. However, Joe insisted he was on Kim’s side as she is family.
Taking to Twitter, now X, viewers were quick to share their theories, predicting that Joe will now blackmail Kim over what really happened.
One person said: “I can’t believe Will’s dead… cue Joe telling Dawn or the police later on that Kim didn’t act quick enough #emmerdale”, a different account put: “I feel like Joe is gonna blackmail Kim at some point for not calling an ambulance sooner for Will #Emmerdale” while another wrote: “So he’s got something to blackmail you with #Emmerdale.”
It comes as Joe actor Ned teased about his return: “I’m so excited to be returning to Emmerdale. There’s a lot of unfinished business for Joe, and it feels like the right time for him to make a comeback.
“Joe has always been a character with a dark side, but there could be something much bigger at play here. Joe is back for a reason, and the devastation at Home Farm is just the beginning of a much bigger story. It’s safe to say the audience can expect fireworks this holiday season!”
Meanwhile, producer, Laura Shaw, added: “We are thrilled to welcome Ned back to Village as the complex and captivating Joe Tate. From the moment Joe arrives on screen, it’s clear there’s trouble ahead but Joe’s hiding an even darker secret that could see 2025 start off with a huge bang.”
Emmerdale airs every weekday at 19.30pm on ITV1, ITV X, STV and STV Player with an hour-long episode on Thursdays. It is also available each morning from 07.00am on ITVX.
