Sarah finds out she’s pregnant in the midst of Jacob grieving Leyla’s death
Emmerdale star Joe Warren-Plant shared Jacob’s “turning point” as a baby plot has been confirmed for the character after the loss of his mum Leyla Harding.
Joe Warren-Plant joined the cast of Emmerdale in 2010 to take on the role of Jacob Gallagher. He’s been involved in some big storylines, including finding out he was adopted and his biological mother is Leyla Harding.
Leyla had an affair with her brother-in-law Justin Gallagher which led to Jacob being conceived. However, Leyla gave Jacob to Alicia and Justin to raise as Alicia was infertile.
In 2019, Jacob was also involved in a grooming storyline where middle-aged teacher Maya started a relationship with him while she was dating David who is Jacob’s adoptive father.
During recent episodes, Jacob has developed a relationship with Sarah Sugden and in spoilers released by the ITV soap, Emmerdale bosses confirm that Sarah will find out she’s pregnant in upcoming episodes.
The pregnancy news follows Jacob pushing Sarah away as he struggles with the pressure of being a young medic and trying to grieve over the tragic and unexpected death of his mum Leyla.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News and other press, Joe shared: “It would come as a shock to the system. If you asked him that question (if he’s ready to be a dad), he’d probably say no. But, with everything that’s going on it might be the turning point that Jacob needs in his life.
“He likes to see himself as a mature adult but he’s still not quite there, and I think if a baby was to come about it might be the kick that Jacob needs to get himself into a better position mentally and things like that really. I think he would be a great dad.”
When asked what kind of a father Jacob would be, Joe responded: “I think because Jacob has always struggled in his own life with that sort of father figure, you know his biological wasn’t really there for him growing up and obviously the relationship he had with David as well which like grew into something really special.
“But, David’s moved to London. I think knowing all that in the back of his head, is something that when the time comes he would really want to step up and do things for himself and for other people that he didn’t really have growing up.”
Emmerdale airs on weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
