Viewers believe now is the perfect time for Emmerdale to explore an old relationship
Emmerdale fans say ‘affair is coming’ as they’re convinced one former couple will become closer in upcoming scenes amid the limo crash tragedy.
Charity Dingle and Vanessa Woodfield are fondly known as “Vanity” to fans of the ITV soap, and many are waiting for the pair to rekindle their former flame. The recent death of Vanessa’s girlfriend Suzy Merton as kickstarted a wealth of viewers making the same demand.
Although proven to be popular amongst fans, they had a very on-again-off-again relationship particularly as Vanessa struggled with Charity being flirtatious towards other residents.
In 2020, Vanessa was diagnosed with bowel cancer and although she initially hesitated in telling Charity, she became a great support system as she came to terms with her diagnosis and eventually had a successful operation which removed the tumour and affected lymph nodes.
After going through so much, the pair officially called it quits in that same year as Vanessa left the village to visit her sick mother but ended up staying for longer than anticipated.
Tracy decided to send Vanessa a picture of Charity kissing someone else (Mackenzie Boyd), leading her to believe that she was having an affair. Vanessa decided to end the relationship and stay at her mum’s.
Since then, Vanessa returned to the village and was shocked to see Charity was now with Mackenzie, who later became her husband. The pair have barely interacted apart from an “almost kiss” after Vanessa checked in on Charity when the grand re-opening of The Woolpack Pub ended in disaster.

An interaction recently increased fans hopes as Charity and Vanessa shared an emotional moment when Vanessa told her she wasn’t to blame for the deaths, after Charity shared: “I’m so sorry for your loss, and I’m so sorry about the accident.”
With released spoilers showing another interaction between the former lovers, fans took to social media to share their excitement. On X (formerly known as Twitter), @swarlanations wrote: “I genuinely think a Charity and Vanessa affair is coming. I feel it in my bones.”
@nciskxcy added: “please say this means that Charity & Vanessa are gonna get close again??? pleaseee!!!” @fridgetsilvacre responded to another post and wrote: “Vanessa confiding in Charity WEEEEEEEE”.
Some fans are certain this storyline will happen as a natural progression after Vanessa’s girlfriend Suzy was the first confirmed death in the limo crash. While Charity is currently with Mackenzie, Emmerdale teased a flashforward of him running through the woods – this could mean something more is on the horizon that pushes Vanity back together.
