Emmerdale’s John Sugden’s ‘real identity’ has been questioned.
Emmerdale’s latest shocker has left fans reeling as the soap confirmed the demise of the dastardly Anthony Fox (played by Nicholas Day) after a brutal clash with Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller). In a twist, it was John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) who stepped in to hide the dirty deed.
Anthony met his end following revelations that he was a child abuser who had targeted his own daughter Ruby Fox-Miligan (Beth Cordingly) during her teens, resulting in the birth of her daughter Steph (Georgia Jay). In the episode aired on Thursday (January 23), now streaming on ITVX, an emotional Aaron faced off with Anthony at Caleb’s (William Ash) depot, demanding a confession and threatening to drag him to the cops.
Facing terminal illness, Anthony feared dying behind bars and taunted Aaron about his own history of abuse, which sent Aaron into a rage, leaving Anthony battered and presumed dead. However, Anthony was still breathing when Aaron bolted from the scene.
Back home, a distraught Aaron spilled the beans to his beau John, admitting: “I nearly killed him.”
The pair rushed back to find Anthony lifeless on the floor, with Aaron in a state of shock and John coolly stepping up to manage the fallout, reports Leicestershire Live.
Emmerdale’s John Sugden has been shrouded in mystery since he rocked up to the village last year, but fans reckon they’ve cracked his dark secret – they’re convinced he’s a serial killer. Since joining the iconic Sugden family, little has been revealed about his past, other than his army background.
But after recent chilling scenes, viewers are on high alert.
One eagle-eyed fan took to social media, speculating: “I’m waiting for John to be a serial killer, that he had something to do with the deaths of Anthony and Nate. Also the way he spoke to Aaron was creepy. Aaron and John are not convincing as a romantic couple #Emmerdale.” (sic)

Another theorist posted: “Right here goes nothing, here’s why I think Anthony’s killer is John Sugden and that’s he’s a serial killer who is vengeful over his absent father in his childhood #Emmerdale.” (sic)
The speculation didn’t stop there, with a Reddit user drawing parallels to another soap, saying: “Like in Hollyoaks with Jez killing everyone that wrongs his family…”
And yet another fan expressed confusion over John’s storyline, adding: “I don’t understand what they are trying to do with John, a robron 2.0? Are they waiting for a certain blonde to return or another ulterior motive such as being a murderer? Did they change the story? everything is very confusing.” (sic)
Emmerdale enthusiasts are clearly on the edge of their seats, waiting for the next twist in this gripping plot.
Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV and ITVX.
