They made a comparison with the Coronation Street detective

Emmerdale fans have demanded that the ITV soap make a character permanent after spotting a similarity with Coronation Street’s Lisa Swain.

On Thursday’s episode (February 13), DI Roberts paid a visit to the village as to speak with Cain Dingle as the police received new information. It was then that they arrested him in connection with the disappearance of Anthony Fox.

DI Roberts was then seen later on interrogating Cain, as she explained that they’ve been worried about Anthony Fox missing his appointments as pointed out by Steph earlier on.

She then revealed to Cain that a neighbour had informed the police of someone working late in the garage and creating a lot of noise. Cain explained that he works at night as Moira is asleep and that he told Manpreet it wouldn’t happen again.

Speaking of Manpreet, she recently overheard noise coming from the garage on the night that Aaron and John decided to pull apart Anthony’s car ready to scrap. Fans watched as Manpreet looked out her window at the commotion.

DI Roberts proceeded to tell Cain that they’ll be performing a search in his garage, and as he told them he has nothing to hide the police started their investigation.

The episode ended with Cain being let go, after a stern warning from the detective inspector to not “go too far” as they’ll still have questions for him if Anthony doesn’t show up.

Fans took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and requested that DI Roberts becomes a permanent feature in the Dales, comparing the character to DS Lisa Swain from Coronation Street.

@denisedc73 wrote: “Right #emmerdale if you’ve got any sense you need to make her a more permanent cast member…DI Roberts please!!!!” and @TVMusings22 replied: “Hmmm new love interest for Mary?”

@LoveSoapsntv added: “I don’t like copy cats but Emmerdale making their own Lisa swain is very much welcome” and then wrote: “CRAZYYYY” as they put pictures of both characters side by side to compare similarities.

DS Lisa Swain joined Coronation Street in 2021, but wasn’t made a full-time character until 2023. After being heavily involved with the Joel Deering case that saw him manipulate and abuse Lauren Bolton, Lisa is now happily loved up with Carla Connor. She also introduced her daughter Betsy to the street, with the latter working at Underworld factory with Carla between college classes.
