The 22-year-old is the latest actor to leave the Cobbles
Coronation Street’s Paddy Bever has announced he is set to exit the show. The soap star is renowned for his role as Max Turner on the long-running soap.
The 22-year-old has been a key part of the cast since he joined the programme in 2021. Paddy took over the role from Harry McDermott, who had played Max for the previous eight years.
Paddy’s addition to the cast indicated show bosses desire to take the character in a more mature direction and he has since been involved in a number of high profile storylines. Max served time in a juvenile detention centre after he was groomed by a far right gang and also got embroiled in Joel Deering’s exit storyline.
However, his turbulent time on the Cobbles will soon come to an end as he confirmed he is the latest cast member to leave in 2025. In a statement shared with our sister site, Mirror Online, he said: “After much reflection and in an incredibly difficult decision, I have chosen to step away from Max, and Coronation Street, to explore new opportunities. I have been surrounded by such kindness and support every step of the way.”
“It’s been a great privilege to contribute to the legacy of such a well-loved and iconic show,” he remarked. “This chapter has been unforgettable and while I look forward to what lies ahead, I will treasure these memories.”
Paddy’s looming exit comes amid a number of faces leaving the show, including Sue Cleaver, Colson Smith and Charlotte Jordan. A source told Mirror Online that his final scenes are already filmed and that the recent number of exits is part of the natural ebb and flow of changes to the Corrie cast.
The source said: “He finished filming at the end of 2024 and will exit as part of a huge upcoming storyline for the Platt family. Everyone at Corrie loves Paddy and we wish him every success for the future.
“This is not a surprise or a shock and is all part of the ebb and flow of characters from the show. We have many new characters joining in the coming weeks and months – and also some returning characters.”
Paddy enjoys close bonds with his Corrie co-stars, particularly Cait Fitton, who plays Lauren Bolton. The two regularly share updates together on their social media platform and jetted off on holiday to Tenerife together in 2023.
Cait issued a heartfelt tribute to Paddy as he celebrated his 22nd birthday last year. She said: “Happy birthday to my Paddy Bever. I love you.”
Paddy has had the opportunity to work closely with Cait throughout their time together on the Cobbles as their characters dated on the show. Paddy has spoken about his friendship with Cait as he told the ECHO and other press in 2023 how he was delighted when she returned as a series regular.
He said: “From when we met we just really got on. I have previously worked with other young people on the show, but I had never worked closely with other people my age – which isn’t a bad thing as I love my on-screen family and everyone I’ve worked with – but with Cait, we are the same age and we had a storyline together, which was something that I’d never experienced.
“This got us pretty close, then I was obviously chuffed to hear that Cait was coming back and we’ve had a great time ever since.” Viewers have speculated Max will meet a grisly end in the Platt family fire as they think this could shape the course of Lauren’s future storylines in the show.
A social media user named @outdoorbee took to X and said: “So Max is leaving #corrie… Do we think he is going to die in the house fire? Then Lauren and Betsy could bond over their dead (ex) boyfriends. Hence, their scenes together as hinted by [Betsy star] Sydney Martin.”
If Max does meet a grisly end, it will bring the curtain down on a memorable time on Corrie in style. During his stint on the show, he won Best Rising Star at the National Television Awards in 2022.
He was in tears as he picked up the prize and took to Instagram after the ceremony to reveal the deserved prize was a dream, adding: “Thank you. pinching myself.” In his speech, Paddy revealed Corrie was his “first acting job” and he is now looking forward to see what the next steps in his career after his exit from the show.
He has enjoyed a well deserved holiday at the start of the year as he shared snaps from a sunny location on Instagram last night. He captioned the post: “f for friends, p for paradise, m for mosquito.”
Stars took to the comments to praise Paddy after the update. Sydney Martin, who plays Betsy Swain, said: “Oh you are glowing.” Channique Sterling Brown, who plays Dee Dee Bailey, shared a series of heart eyes emojis.
Fans said they would be upset when Paddy eventually leaves Corrie. Heather said: “Sorry you are leaving Corrie we will miss you wishing all the very best for your future which I’m sure will be bright and fruitful.” Darren commented: “Going to miss you as Max!!”
