ITV Coronation Street’s Leanne, Toyah and Chesney link explained as fans left confused

Coronation Street fans have been left confused as to how Leanne Battersby, Toyah Battersby and Chesney Brown are all related following devastating death news

Coronation Street left fans heartbroken last week as they watched on to see Les Battersby’s family discover he had tragically died in a workplace accident.

The character of Les, who Bruce Jones portrayed, was a familiar face on the cobbles from his debut in 1997 until he made his final exit in 2008. The residents of Weatherfield were stunned when the news of Les’ off-screen death came to light in Friday’s episode.

Leanne Battersby, played by Jane Danson, received the heartbreaking news from police officers who informed her: “Leanne Battersby, there’s no easy way to say this – your dad was involved in an accident at work last night”, and then sorrowfully delivered: “I’m sorry but he died from his injuries.”

In forthcoming scenes, we will see Leanne, along with Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) and Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor), in the sombre setting of a solicitors office for the reading of Les’ will.

Adam Barlow, played by Sam Robertson, has the duty to inform the bereaved that the abattoir where Les was employed is proposing a £50k compensation payout provided a non-disclosure agreement is signed, reports Lancs Live.

Meanwhile, Jane Hazlegrove’s character Bernie Winter, who is Chesney Brown’s (Sam Aston) mother-in-law, senses something amiss regarding Les’ demise and suggests digging deeper. This upcoming week also sees the family come together as they prepare to bid farewell to Les with a funeral and wake.

During the scenes, soap watchers have been left confused as to how Leanne, Toyah and Chesney are all related especially as Chesney has called the now late character ‘Uncle Les’, with fans taking to social media for answers. One person said: “Can someone tell me how Leanne and Ches, and Toyah are related please? Ches just said uncle Les, I thought Cilla was his mum.

“I assumed Les was Leanne’s dad, Cilla was Ches mum, how does Toyah fit in? Leanne and Toyah have had no interaction with Ches let alone Fizz” to which a different account replied: “Mass confusion” while another added: “I forgot about that!”

Here, we take a look at how the trio are related. Leanne is the biological daughter of Les with her mother being Stella Price. Meanwhile, Toyah is the stepdaughter of Les after he married her mother, Janice, back in 1994 until their split years later. Toyah’s biological parents are Janice and Ronnie Clegg.

Following his split from Janice, Les moved on with Cilla Brown, where the two married in 2005 before later splitting. As such, Les, who Chesney called ‘Uncle Les’, became a stepfather to Chesney and he decided to adopt the youngster. Les was also a stepfather to Cilla’s other child, Fiz Dobbs, who is Chesney’s sister.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
