Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney has opened up about her hopes for her character Cassie Plummer to have a happy ending with her new love interest Steve McDonald

Coronation Street’s Claire Sweeney has hinted at an upcoming wedding between her character, Cassie Plummer, and new flame Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson). In 2023, Cassie made her entrance into Weatherfield as the mother of local hero Tyrone Hobbs (Alan Halsall).

However, after becoming Ken Barlow’s (William Roache) carer and moving into his house, she began secretly spiking his tea with antihistamines to make him reliant on her. She’s also been conning Ken by using his credit card for personal purchases, trying to convince him that he ordered them but forgot.

But when Ken recently confronted Cassie about her deceitful behaviour, he kicked her out. Shortly after, Ken collapsed and was rushed to hospital in a critical condition, but luckily survived.

Amidst all this, Cassie has found herself genuinely falling for Steve, causing tension in the Barlow household. In forthcoming episodes, Steve’s ex-wife Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) claims she wants to bury the hatchet and invites Cassie over for lunch.

However, Tracy’s true intentions are revealed when she gives Cassie some drugs and encourages her to indulge, hoping to ruin her life. But will Cassie fall for Tracy’s nasty trick and can she patch things up with Steve?, reports Lancs Live.

Claire Sweeney, 53, has just dropped a juicy hint that her character Cassie on Coronation Street may waltz down the aisle with smitten Steve.

In a chat with Daily Star and other press, Claire didn’t hold back her excitement about the potential union. She gushed: “Long may it last because he is gorgeous, and there’s stuff between them.”

The actress cheekily shared a recent convo with her co-star: “I said this to him the other day, ‘I’d love for us to get married’. He went ‘Oh not another wedding’. I mean I’m not married in real life, it would be quite lovely to have another one.”

Claire is buzzing at the thought of saying ‘I do’ on the cobbles: “I’ve been married once in Brookside, it would be lovely to have a wedding in Corrie.”

Opening up about her on-set chemistry with Simon Gregson, Claire sang his praises: “I can’t tell you how much I love working with Si Gregson. He is hysterical, he’s a laugh a minute, and he’s a kind soul.”

She continued raving, “I’m talking about Simon, and he’s just an absolute joy. It’s not like going to work. He makes me laugh. I adore him, and I would love them to end up together.”

Talking about the dynamic between Cassie and Steve, Claire revealed: “There is so much fun in the scenes with them. Cassie could have been doing some evil stuff, thinking terrible things, but the minute he comes, she turns into a giddy teenager. He just strips all this away from her, and it is very genuine.”
