ITV Coronation Street viewers say ‘I’m out’ after character’s death ‘sealed’

Fans all said the same thing about the distressing scenes

Coronation Street fans were feeling distressed after Wednesday night’s dramatic episode which saw David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) plot his own death in a hit and run car accident. However, his idea didn’t go to plan, as Daisy (Charlotte Jordan) was also caught up in the accident.

The episode followed David’s monologue as he narrated the scenes leading up to the point where he was supposed to be killed. In emotional scenes, he said a subtle goodbye to his family members who had no idea about his harrowing intentions.

Viewers admitted the episode was a hard watch, following several distressing scenes in recent weeks. The Platt’s have been in danger after finding themselves in debt to gangster Harvey Gaskell. In a final bid to solve his worries, David thought him getting killed was the only way out.

Taking to social media, one fan said: “I think I will be saying goodbye to Coronation Street if the current doom and gloom continues. There are too many dark story lines at the moment.”

More added: “If you’re bereaved by suicide, you’ll likely find #CoronationStreet #Corrie a difficult watch tonight. Take care of yourself, and switch off if you need to (I did)”, “I do love #corrie but it’s hard going at the moment. I’m sick of being warned of “distressing scenes” at the top of every show.”

At the end of the episode, David was in hospital fighting for his life, while Daisy was also recovering from the accident. A large number of Corrie fans admitted: “If David dies, I’m not watching anymore.” More agreed: “I swear if David dies, I’m out!!”, “David can’t die right? RIGHT?”

Appearing on ITV’s This Morning, Jack P. Shepherd teased his lengthy stint on the Cobbles may soon come to an end. He said: “I think it’s 25 years next month [I’ve been on the show]. It would have been nice to kind of reach that milestone but sadly, tonight’s the end. But I’ve loved every minute of it!”

However, Jack was revealing nothing about his character’s true fate, adding; “I’ve loved my time here, loved the character and yeah it’s a really special episode!” Shona Platt was one of the first characters on the scene after the hit and run incident.

Speaking to the ECHO and other press, Shona (Julia Goulding) explained what it was like filming the bloody scenes as she said, from Shona’s perspective, her onscreen husband has died. She said: “[For Shona] he’s dead. He’s going to bleed to death.”

Viewers will need to wait until Friday to find out David’s real fate. The drama in Weatherfield continues on ITV1 on ITX on Friday at 8pm.
