ITV Coronation Street viewers baffled by characters’ ages as they return to soap

Coronation Street viewers were left scratching their heads as four characters made a return to the cobbles

Coronation Street viewers were left amazed at the transformation of four characters as they made an almost unrecognisable return to the popular ITV soap.

The Winter-Brown quadruplets were reintroduced in the episode airing on Monday (September 2), bursting into Billy and Paul’s flat decked out in shiny new school uniforms, ready to embark on their very first day at primary school.

Born to Gemma and Chesney in October 2019, Carys, Bryn, Aled, and Llio are the quads that have now left fans startled with how much they’ve grown. Displaying a matured look unlike the last time they graced our screens, these siblings took part in a charming family photo with their mum, grandmother, uncle, and older brother Joseph Brown.

At present, the foursome are each four years old and are expected to celebrate their fifth birthday come October.

Several actors have portrayed the young characters over time, with Charlotte and James Holt being the initial faces for the quads, while Arthur, Lily, and Lucy Taylor featured as triplets. The twins Harry and Harvey Thompson shared the role of Aled, reports the Express.

In 2021, Joseph Woods took on the character of Aled, who was introduced as deaf.

Confounded fans have taken to X previously known as Twitter to voice their astonishment at how quickly the quads have grown. One viewer exclaimed: “How are the quads school age already? Where did the last four years go?”

Echoing this sentiment, another added: “I’d forgotten the quads existed tbh! Where did they go?” A third expressed delight at seeing the children again, commenting: “Aww the quads look so cute!” while another humorously noted: “The quads having their annual sighting on their first day at school.”

Another viewer was moved by the milestone moment, commenting: “It’s the quads’ first day of primary school!”

The twins greeted the world in Llandudno and carry Welsh names as a heartfelt homage Gemma faced sudden labour in a cable car. In honour of crooner Aled Jones, one twin received his name while the siblings were named after the paramedics who assisted in their birth.

In a poignant scene, Paul implored Billy with deep emotion: “Going to miss them kids. Don’t let them forget me. Please?”

Billy gave his steadfast vow, reassuring: “I won’t.”
