ITV Coronation Street viewers all say the same thing about David Platt ‘mistake’

David Platt plotted his own death in a hit and run accident

Corrie fans were furious as they claimed a character’s storyline was a mistake on the ITV soap. The drama continued following the aftermath of the car accident, as viewers saw David and Daisy deal with the consequences. In recent episodes, David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) plotted his own death in a hit and run car accident. In emotional scenes, he said a subtle goodbye to his family members who had no idea about his harrowing intentions.

The Platt’s have been in danger after finding themselves in debt to gangster Harvey Gaskell. In a final bid to solve his worries, David thought him getting killed was the only way out. However, the accident didn’t go to plan and David was taken to hospital. Unfortunately, he wasn’t the only Weatherfield resident to be affected, as Daisy (Charlotte Jordan) was also caught up in the tragic plan.

She was taken to hospital, and it was revealed she had lost her baby, whom she shared with Kit Green. But during Wednesday’s (March 12) episode, Kit Green was determined to uncover the truth about the crash which killed his baby.

Kit took David to the police station, but his anger got the better of him and he quickly drove away. He took David to a warehouse and told him what he really thought about David’s selfish actions. While the two of them were alone, Kit beat up David as he revealed: “I just really wanted to batter you.”

After a long conversation about David’s mistake, and the fact Kit slept with David’s partner Shona last year, David eventually apologised for the heartbreaking consequences of the accident. He told Kit: “I’m sorry I killed your baby.”

But viewers all said the same about what David said. One wrote: “No way did they have him say “I’m sorry I killed your baby” wtf has #corrie become ???” Another said: “I’m sorry for killing your baby.” Sensitively put David, sensitively put.” More added to the conversation on X: “As if you would say that to someone about their baby.”

Meanwhile, Shona was concerned about David as she heard a rumour he had been arrested. Later in the episode, Kit brought David back to Weatherfield, and he told Shona: “It’s sorted.”

Jack P. Shepherd spoke to the ECHO and other press about filming the crash scene. The 37-year-old said: “I always push the limits in the stunts. Of course I go past the line just to get a little bit closer to the blow away. Just because I think we’ve only got one go of it. And I think I’m safe. There’s a million people here with fire extinguishers.

“We did an almost near miss on the crash episode. I wasn’t paying attention. We just added that in. I was looking away and it nearly hit me.” Jack loves being a part of storylines when the audience can’t predict what will happen next.

He said: “I don’t like doing the stories when the audience can second guess what’s going to happen. There’s loads of times in the script when we think we have to spoon-feed the audience. It’s more interesting for them to not see what’s coming.”

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV. Episodes are released on ITVX at 7am.
