Coronation Street villain Damon Hay was last seen being sent to prison after being part of a violent armed robbery – but now the actor who plays him has been spotted on set
A notorious Coronation Street baddie is rumoured to be making a dramatic comeback after being seen on the show’s set.
Ciaran Griffiths, who portrays the menacing Damon Hay, has been caught on camera at Media City, sparking rumours of his return to the cobbles.
Having played the role intermittently for several months, it seems Damon may be poised for another stint in Weatherfield.
After being jailed for his involvement in an armed heist, Damon’s storyline included some tense jailhouse moments with his sibling Harvey Gaskell (played by Will Mellor).
Since then, Damon has vanished from the screen but with upcoming prison scenes hinted at, we’re left wondering which character might next face incarceration.

“Ciaran has been spotted on set in recent days – which will be a shock to fans because when he left the show, he went back to Australia. The actor returns to filming whenever the show needs to see him in prison,” an insider disclosed to The Sun.
“Because his character was sentenced to six years behind bars, that means it’s likely one unlucky cobbles resident is going to end up in prison – as Damon isn’t getting out any day soon,” reports the Mirror.
With Ciaran’s recent sightings at the set, speculation is mounting that Joel could soon be facing jail time for his actions towards Lauren.
Actor Calum Lill has hinted at a chilling turn in his character’s arc, suggesting that some of the show’s characters might be in for a rough time.
He expressed his own trepidation about the upcoming plot, remarking: “Obviously, I can’t say how far, but its further than I thought he would go.
“When I read it I was scared to even play it, because it was that dark! He’ll go to any lengths that he needs to.”
Next week’s episodes will see Dee-Dee grow increasingly wary of Joel’s actions, setting the stage for an explosive showdown given their legal prowess. Lill elaborated on their dynamic, describing it as a “battle of expertise”.

He explained the intensity of their on-screen clash, saying: “The great thing is you’ve got two people who, for their job, they interrogate, they defend, they deflect and are going up against each other.
“So she cross-examines him, he’s coming up with excuses and deflecting, coming up with plausible things and trying to direct her in other ways. Interesting to watch play out, they are both very good at getting answers. It’s a battle of expertise.”
Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV from 8pm.
