Coronation Street could be set to lose more characters in 2025 after a series of big departures

Bookies have released the latest odds, suggesting that Coronation Street could be saying goodbye to more than one of its cherished characters in 2025.

Charlotte Jordan, who portrays barmaid Daisy Midgeley, is the most recent actress to announce her departure from the soap.

This comes after surprising revelations from Sue Cleaver, a staple on the cobbles since 2000 as Eileen Grimshaw, and Colson Smith, who has portrayed Officer Craig Tinker for 14 years.

These departures have sparked rumours about who might be next to leave, reports Lancs Live.

It’s already public knowledge that Lucy Fallon, who plays Bethany Platt, will be taking maternity leave later this year to welcome her second child – but could this lead to Bethany’s permanent departure from Weatherfield?

James Leyfield, an entertainment expert representing Gambling.com, has made predictions about who might be leaving Coronation Street next – and Bethany is at odds of 4/5 to be the next character to announce a permanent exit from the cobbles.

In distressing scenes last year, Bethany developed sepsis following cosmetic surgery, leading to complications that necessitated life-saving medical treatment.

At the time, viewers speculated that this was Bethany’s exit storyline as she had recently announced her pregnancy. On August 19, 2024, Lucy revealed her pregnancy, offering a first look at her baby bump.

She also noted that she was “halfway there” already, suggesting that she had kept the news under wraps for months.

Coronation Street is bracing for some emotional departures, and Bethany’s storyline remains mysterious as viewers speculate about her upcoming exit.

Meanwhile, Coronation Street stalwart Kevin Webster faces a difficult journey ahead with the character set to confront testicular cancer, stirring up rumours of his potential departure from Weatherfield, with bookies offering odds of 11/10 on his leaving this year.

The mechanic, who will diagnosed with testicular cancer, has been given odds of 11/10 that he leaves Weatherfield this year.

Adding to the list of possible exits, Jenny Connor is also mentioned; with odds standing at 6/4 that she’ll be the one to leave. Sally Ann Matthews’ recent remarks about the show have made waves among the fanbase, especially after she told followers, “ITV have got no money.”

During a recent Instagram Live session, she responded to a fan’s question about her preferred filming locations with a candid revelation: “We don’t do on location … right … ok so the whole ‘Corrie doesn’t do location any more.’ Thankfully because I fricking hate being on location – location is s**t – I hate it.”

She added: “So I’m glad ITV have got no money – am I allowed to say that? Well, I have said it.”

Jenny’s admission comes after fans theorised that the Rovers Return would get a brand-new owner. Despite Jenny stealing Carla Connor’s money to buy the pub, Jenny is still very much involved.

On X, one person wrote: “Imagine Cassie convinces Ken to use his premium bond money on buying the Rovers and then Cassie actually ends up as the landlady, what a mega turn of events that would be if she wasn’t in recovery.”

Other fans seemed to agree, as a second penned: “Cassie as landlady of the Rovers – PLEASEEEE, we need it.” A third penned: “I genuinely think it would make for great TV it would be so good.” (sic)

One exit that would send shockwaves through the cobbles would be David Platt’s (Jack P Shepherd) departure. The actor has been given odds of 5/2 of leaving.

Bill Roach is listed in the Guinness World Records as the longest-serving television star in a continuous role after he first played Ken in the show’s debut episode on December 9, 1960.

The actor has been given odds of 11/1 to be the next to announce his departure. Other stars listed include Sean Tully (Antony Cotton), with 3/1, and Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton), facing a potential life sentence in prison, with odds of 7/2.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV.
