ITV Coronation Street Shona Platt star Julia Goulding ‘furious’ as co-star exits soap

Coronation Street legend Julia Goulding has shared her sadness at a number of key stars departing the cobbles, with Paddy Bever and Charlotte Jordan the latest to bow out

Coronation Street’s Shona Platt actor Julia Goulding opened up about the wave of exits shaking the ITV soap.

Having joined the show back in 2016, she has seen her fair share of co-stars come and go, but the upcoming departure of co-stars Paddy Bever (Max Turner) and Charlotte Jordan (Daisy Midgeley) has hit especially hard.

Talking to press, Julia didn’t hide her emotions regarding Paddy’s exit: “Devastated. I love Paddy so much and I could actually be his mother, it’s ridiculous.”

She believes Paddy has a bright future and would love a comeback for his character, adding, “He’s got a very bright future ahead of him and I would love to see him come back at some point, but I don’t know where his life is going to take him. Really sad to lose him.”

Her reaction to Charlotte’s decision to leave was half in jest, half in disappointment: “And Charlie, don’t even get me started. I’m furious with her for leaving. I’m losing all of my mates.”

Nonetheless, amidst the goodbyes, Julia anticipates the arrival of her real-life buddy Farrel Hegarty who joins as the “nightmare neighbour” Lou Michaelis. She’s been making a splash behind the scenes, according to the Liverpool Echo, reports Leicestershire Live.

Julia expressed some sense of excitement amidst the farewells, looking forward to creating new memories with an old friend on set.

She shared: “We’ve known each other for 20 years. It’s wonderful having her here. I’ve not done any scenes with her, but I did ask [show boss] Kate [Brooks] if we possibly could at some point. She’s wonderful and is perfect for Corrie.”

The Platts are set to continue their dramatic stint on the cobbles as Max faces court for arson and David Platt, along with Daisy, find themselves in grave danger after a hit-and-run incident. Viewers can expect heart-stopping moments next Wednesday (March 5) when a guilt-ridden David, played by Jack P Shepherd, leaves the Rovers Return only to encounter disaster on the street.

Meanwhile, an overwhelmed Daisy is confronted with questions about her baby’s paternity and rushes out just in time for both her and David to be hit by a vehicle. Julia reflects on the grisly filming process for these scenes, revealing: “There was a lot of blood. Jack was on the floor for a couple of days and we were both covered in this sticky, syrupy blood. I think we wore quite dark clothing as well to not upset compliance.”

The residents of Weatherfield must brace themselves as another high-tension episode looms, promising turmoil for everyone involved.

Coronation Street’s Julia has opened up about the thrill of working on the show, revealing: “We have a fantastic gang with all the actors and the crew. You’re switching from really serious stuff and then absolutely side splitting laughing when the cameras aren’t rolling.”

While she remained tight-lipped about upcoming plots, she did drop a few hints about what’s in store for her character amidst the uncertain future of her onscreen husband following his 25-year tenure. Julia teased fans, saying: “David’s going to be either dead or out of action. I can’t possibly say which. And with Max’s sentencing and everything, [Shona’s] putting out fires rather than being the fire.”

Coronation Street is on ITV at 8pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday and available to stream from 7am on ITVX
