Jacob Roberts spoke to the ECHO and other press about what’s in store for his onscreen counterpart
Jacob Roberts has been a hit with fans since he arrived on Coronation Street as Kit Green. The corrupt police officer first appeared on screens earlier this year when he debuted as Bernie Winter’s estranged son.
Kit’s importance to the show has continued to go from strength-to-strength as he was embroiled in the long-running Joel Deering saga and the hunt to find his killer. Kit’s significance is showing no signs of slowing down after Joel’s killer, Lauren Bolton, has been placed behind bars.
The character kissed Daisy Midgeley in last night’s episode but has also set his sights on another Weatherfield resident. Kit had an affair with Shona Platt last week, who acted out against her husband, David Platt, over his visit to Clayton in prison.
Speaking about the storyline with ECHO and other press, Jacob admitted he feared the storyline could spell the end of his turbulent time on the Cobbles. He said: “I thought that fling might have gotten me killed off! If David’s coming after me, he’s coming after me! But yeah, it’s been good because I didn’t realise when it would come out or if it would just be kept secret.”
Jacob offered an insight into his onscreen counterpart’s thought process as he admitted he was initially shocked by the development. He told the ECHO and other press: “It was out of the blue.
“We had the interview scenes and Kit felt for Shona because of how she explained the story about David.” The soap star added: “He feels sorry for Shona.
“You don’t see any flirting in the scenes beforehand so it comes out of nowhere.” Jacob also explained how his character’s reckless act was borne out of frustration with his current love interest, Daisy, who has been involved in her own love triangle with Daniel Osbourne and Ryan Prescott.
He added: “He’s gone, ‘do you know what? I’m not having that,’ and he’s just done his own thing. Plus, he’s not stupid. He knows that Daisy’s got history with Ryan or Daniel, so he sees that. He’s a detective, so he can see certain things. So, yeah, she’s not so innocent. So, he thought he could get away with something.”

Although Jacob laughed he thought the stint could lead to his character’s untimely end, he said Kit’s arrogance means he’s capable of getting away with the affair, which is set to continue over the next few weeks. He added: “I don’t think he does [think David will find out]. I think he thinks he can get away with it.
“He knows that she won’t tell David, so if she doesn’t tell David, he’s in the clear. He thinks that way, yeah. The second time happens and that’s when it gets interesting, doesn’t it.”
Jacob’s time in Corrie is showing no signs of ending anytime soon and the soap star couldn’t be happier. He said: “My mum loves the show and I’ve grown up watching the show as well. I’ve loved it and it’s a great place. When I came here, I was overwhelmed with the set. It’s unbelievable and it’s literally like a film set.”
Jacob was previously known to soap fans for his role as Damon Kinsella in Hollyoaks, who he played from 2017 – 2023. The 34-year-old said he was blown away by the scale of Corrie after moving from the Channel 4 show.
He added: “I’m not slating it, it’s just totally different in terms of scale. So, yeah, it was great to get the job, and I’ve loved it since I’ve been here.”
Jacob regularly keeps fans updated with his life away from the screen on Instagram. He was recently in a relationship with Amy Harris but it is understood they have split after they wiped images of each other from their social media accounts.
Jacob wowed fans last year with an insight into his home after he welcomed a rescue puppy into the fold. He shared a snap of Bugsy alongside the caption: “Welcome Bugsy!
“Bugsy is a five month old rescue puppy from Romania. I was able to transfer him over here with the help of the @thepackprojectuk who are a fantastic charity organisation that find dogs/cats their forever home.
“Bugsy was extremely timid at first and didn’t want to come out of his travel crate but with the right encouragement, patience and plenty of treats he soon come out of his shell.”
Jacob marked the year anniversary of his special family addition in September with a heartfelt post. He said: “One year spent with Bugsy!
“Now… He chewed up my sofa, his recall was terrible so I was out for hours with him and every pair of socks I own have holes in, but I wouldn’t change for the world. Rescues are a tough work and require a lot of patience. In this year he’s come on leaps and bounds and all of them problems have gone away. He’s super confident now and as playful as ever.”
Fans and followers swooned over the updates. Nicki said: “Love this.” Jemma commented: “Awww I love this. Dogs are just the best.” Susan commented: “Nothing beats a rescue dog.”
Carrie posted: “Love this and love the name” Hayden took to the comments and added: “Good on you, Jacob. It’s a wonderful thing you’re doing.”
