Monday night’s episode saw Shona kidnapped and driven away
Coronation Street returned to ITV1 on Monday with more drama for the Platt’s, as Shona was kidnapped. However, fans were distracted after noticing something different about David. The episode opened with David, played by Jack P. Shepherd and Max, played by Paddy Bever.
A stressed David, played by Jack P. Shepherd, suspected his wife had been kidnapped by Harvey, as she didn’t show up for work. Unbeknown to David, Shona, played by Julia Goulding, was taken away in the back of a van. However, viewers seemed to overlook this dramatic turn of events, instead getting distracted by David’s appearance.
Viewers were quick to take to social media after noticing a change to David’s hair, which has been a little longer recently. On X, one viewer said: “David looks so much better with short hair.” More added: “David’s finally had a haircut”, “David has had his wig trimmed” and “AT LAST! David’s had his hair cut.”
With his new hair style, a stressed David went to the police station to report Shona as missing, and he suspected Harvey Gaskell was to blame. This follows a long-term storyline, as David has been on the wrong side of Harvey since he stole money from him last year.
In retaliation, Harvey has tormented David, even running over the Platt family’s dog. This week, his wife Shona was left traumatised after being kidnapped. However, the drama will only be getting worse for the Platt’s, as spoilers reveal an enormous house fire is set to destroy the family’s home in next week’s episodes.
The dramatic scenes, set to air on Monday February 3, will see some characters trapped in the blaze. While residents of the street try to work out who caused the fire, Nick Tilsley (Ben Price), Shona, and Max Turner will brave the flames.
Fans predict the fire will be part of Paddy Bever’s exit storyline, after it was revealed earlier this month that he’s set to leave the ITV soap. The actor, who departs after a four-year stint, revealed he’s leaving to “explore new opportunities”.
Elsewhere on the cobbles during Monday’s episode, at number one, the Barlow’s’ suspicions about Ken’s carer, Cassie Plummer, continued to grow. Tracy accused her of stealing from Ken after she saw money had been debited from his account to buy hair straighteners.
However, Ken believed Cassie was innocent and asked her to move in full time, and a delighted Cassie immediately accepted. Viewers said they called it “months ago”.
One said: “Can’t believe Ken has asked the Wicked Witch of Weatherfield to move in.” Another unhappy viewer added: “Cassie has Ken wrapped round her finger.”
Later, the police arrived at the home of Gemma Winter and Chesney Brown, who had been out celebrating Dev and Bernie’s engagement at The Rovers. The officers cautioned Chesney, as they said they had CCTV footage of him damaging a van.
The drama continues in Weatherfield on Wednesday. Coronation Street is on ITV1 at 8pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
