Cassie moved into number one to be Ken’s full-time carer
Fans were relieved after Ken Barlow (William Roache) confronted Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) on Coronation Street, after months of lies and deceit as his carer. Ken’s suspicions about Cassie continued to rise, after he lied and told her his card got declined at the shop.
Cassie took on the role of being Ken’s carer over the last few months and even moved into number one to offer her support on a full time basis. But things soon took a dark turn, as Cassie began poisoning Ken and using his vulnerability to her own advantage. She had been adding antihistamines into his tea, making him feel drowsy.
She also convinced him he was losing his memory, after scamming him and using his debit card to make purchases online. She ordered various things for herself, and claimed Ken had completely forgotten about ordering them.
During Wednesday’s (February 25) broadcast, Ken confronted Cassie. As she put down the cups of tea on the table, Ken sneakily swapped the cups. He said to Cassie: “There’s more than just tea in that mug isn’t there and don’t you dare deny it.”
After a long back and forth, Ken shouted at Cassie as he connected the dots between all of the mysterious parcels which had been arriving at his house. Cassie admitted to ordering multiple items including two air fryers and an iPad, before Ken kicked her out.
But the dramatic showdown left Ken holding his chest and struggling to breathe. Tracy arrived home to find her dad unconscious, before he was rushed to hospital.
Taking to social media, viewers were quick to react to the storyline, as well as point out Cassie’s error. She had been keeping the antihistamines used to poison Ken in the kitchen cupboard, which could have been discovered by anyone, reports Lancs Live.
One person said: “Nobody in soapland ever check their own cupboards. How long has Cassie had that medicine stashed in Ken’s cupboard, surely someone in the Barlow house discovered it?” to which another account said: “Why does nobody in that house use Cassie’s drug cupboard? I just don’t get it.”
Elsewhere, another account wrote: “Well the medicine is in the cupboard in plain sight”, a different soap watcher said: “Cassie has the antihistamines in the cupboard, right at the front, does no one ever go in there besides her? Surely she’d have it hidden” while another added: “It’s absolutely amazing that she can keep a bottle of liquid drugs in the kitchen cupboard, you know, just reach in and grab it and no one else is seeing it. No one else in that household opens the kitchen cupboards and looks… SURE!”
It was later revealed Ken had a heart attack, while Cassie was arrested for “drugging with intent to harm.” Fans took to social media following Cassie’s downfall. One said: “I’m so glad Cassie has been found out, I knew Ken would catch on eventually.” Another added: “Ken is alive and Cassie has been arrested! I can sleep tonight now.”
Coronation Street continues on ITV1 on Wednesday at 8pm.
