ITV Coronation Street fans gutted as star ‘confirms’ exit – and he’s filmed final scenes

Coronation Street star Seamus McGoff has seemingly confirmed that he has quit the ITV soap after his character Matty Radcliffe was seen leaving the cobbles in a dramatic storyline.

Coronation Street’s Seamus McGoff, known for his role as Matty, has dropped heavy hints about bidding farewell to the beloved soap, leaving fans stunned.

The show has recently seen a wave of exits, with popular cast members such as Colson Smith, Luca Toolan, Sue Devaney, Sue Cleaver, and Charlotte Jordan deciding to part ways with the long-running drama. The actor behind Matty Radcliffe turned to Instagram to break the news, posting that his character “gone out with a bang”.

In a post revealing behind-the-scenes snaps with co-actors Jack Carroll, Marc Bayliss, and Rebecca Atkinson, who plays a prison guard, he showcased what seemed to be his final moments on set.

Admirers promptly filled the comments section with their goodbyes and praises, with remarks like: “Great episode, bad lad. All the best in the future,” and shocked responses such as: “Omg, are you leaving.”

The comment section was awash with surprise and sad queries, including “You ain’t done already, are you?” and questions like “Don’t tell me that is your last scene?”

Fans are gutted to see Seamus leave the soap

In a stirring narrative, Seamus’ character Matty was central to a heartrending tale where his brother Mason, played by Luca Toolan, meets a grim end at the hands of their oldest brother Logan (Harry Lowbridge).

Matty’s last scenes depicted him in a prison waiting room, anticipating a visit from his girlfriend. When she doesn’t show up, Matty is visibly upset by Bobby Donovan’s (played by Jack) stare.

He eventually grabs a knife and threatens Bobby until Rob Donovan (portrayed by Marc) steps in to calm the situation, according to the Mirror.

More than four years after its 60th anniversary, ITV’s cherished soap opera has been experiencing a period of change, with several recent exits sparking worries about a potential crisis. Fan favourited such as Sue Cleaver’s Eileen Grimshaw and Charlotte Jordan’s Daisy Midgeley are among those departing.

Late last year, the soap’s new chief, Kate Brooks, gave a heads-up about the upcoming changes, stating: “There are a few exits this year and some unexpected ones that will send shockwaves. People might not expect the exits, but there are a few.”

In a turn of events that has moved long-time fans, Helen Worth featured in her final scene during the Christmas special after an impressive fifty-year tenure. Speaking about her departure at the time, she said she felt it was the “perfect” moment for her exit.

Similarly, Lucy Fallon, Shelley King, Maureen Lipman, and others have decided to bid farewell to the show.

However, Maureen Lipman has reassured viewers that her absence won’t be permanent, as she told her fans: “I’ll be absent for a while and then coming back. I’m not going to die, but then I’ll be in and out of it because I want to have a bit of a life. David and I are thinking of having a bit of a gap year.”

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV.
