Coronation Street’s Cassie Plummer was seen taking action against Ken Barlow once more on the ITV soap, as he was left in danger.
In a surprising turn of events on Coronation Street this Friday, Ken Barlow (played by Bill Roache) found himself in peril once again, with hints suggesting he might be written out of the show.
The iconic character, who has graced the ITV soap for an impressive 64 years, was hurriedly taken to hospital this week following a poisoning incident by his carer, Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney). Audiences witnessed her crushing what appeared to be either a painkiller or blood thinner pill and slipping it into his tea.
This drastic step was taken after Ken dismissed her from her carer role, leaving him in a precarious state. In the aftermath, she feigned innocence, insisting she hadn’t done anything wrong and assuring Ken’s family that she was always meticulous with his medication.
However, in a shocking twist on Friday, Cassie managed to evade the consequences of her actions, and another beloved character was wrongfully accused. Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) was blamed for the apparent mishap with Ken’s medication that resulted in his hospitalisation.
Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) informed Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) that Tracy had accidentally dropped Ken’s pill box, scattering his daily medications. It was suggested that Tracy had mistakenly replaced the pills incorrectly, leading to the belief that this caused his ‘poisoning’, reports the Mirror.
Despite Tracy’s innocence, Ken concluded that Cassie hadn’t drugged him after all and that the mix-up was due to Tracy’s error. Steve proposed that due to the incorrect placement of the pills, Ken may have been given an excessive dose.
In a heated exchange, Ken lashed out at Tracy with some harsh words before instructing her to leave. Unaware that it was Cassie who had drugged her father, Tracy felt guilty and left in tears.
Ken, still angry, told his daughter he didn’t want to see her anymore. He then invited Cassie back to work for him, even offering her a pay rise.
Believing there had been a misunderstanding and that Cassie was innocent, Ken apologised. Cassie, delighted to have evaded detection, seemed set to target Ken again.
With elderly Ken potentially in grave danger and Cassie after his wealth, could she go as far as murder? Following his recent hospital visit, will she push things too far?
Viewers witnessed the character researching tablets that “make you drowsy” on the internet, suggesting she’s planning to drug him once more – but could this lead to a tragic conclusion for Ken?
Taking to X to share their thoughts and theories, fans think Cassie will end up killing Ken.
“Why is Cassie trying to poison Ken whats her motive #Corrie?” one asked while another wrote: “I’m baffled how Cassie actually benefits from Ken dying or is this just intended to make him more dependent on her…? #Corrie.”
Someone else questioned: “Is she trying to kill Ken off? #Corrie.”
“Cassie will soon be crushing more pills into Ken’s drink #Corrie,” another suggested while one added: “Ken deserves everything he’s going to get from Cassie #corrie.”
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV.
