Stephen Halsall has arrived in Australia to support his brother Alan Halsall in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! and has given his verdict on his spat with Dean McCullough
Coronation Street star Alan Halsall, known for his role as Tyrone Dobbs, has received backing from his brother after a tiff with Dean McCullough on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! caused quite the stir. Stephen Halsall flew all the way to Brisbane to show his support for his brother.
It comes after Alan and Dean disagreed on how the soap star handled waking the BBC Radio 1 DJ up from a nap last week. While Alan, 42, explained that he’d attempted to wake him up “as soft” as he could, Dean, 32, claimed that he should have been given “a minute” to compose himself.
Later on in the Bush Telegraph, Dean added: “I opened my eyes and wee Tyrone from Coronation Street is like: ‘Come on, mate, you need to go down to the bottom of the creek.’ He didn’t even give me a chance to say yes or no because he went: ‘You don’t fancy it? No?’ and ran.
“He was being a real camp leader. I was like: ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa don’t dig me out like that.’ And I had to say to him: ‘If you’re going to say: ‘Don’t fancy it? ‘ – give me a chance’. Because of course I fancy it. I want to help Jane. I went straight down and helped her.”
Commenting on the situation, he told the Mirror: “It was probably blown out of proportion a little bit the way Dean reacted.” He also praised his brother’s composure through the incident, adding: “He could have just said I will just do it in a minute and nothing would have come of it. [Alan] handled himself well to be fair.”
Throughout the series, Dean, who has been nominated for the most Bushtucker Trials so far, has become known for being rather vocal when taking on his challenges. “People act in different ways. Dean is a screamer and that’s just the way it is,” Stephen said, reports the Mirror.
The apparent miscommunication has divided fans at home, with viewers taking to social media to express their opinions on the incident. While some agreed with Alan in getting Dean to complete the camp duties, others empathised with the radio DJ.
“That was uncomfortable to watch! Alan is one of the nicest men in showbiz and i think Dean just showed his true colours,” wrote one. “I’m convinced Dean thought there would be no cameras near the wood collecting place and let his true colours show,” commented another.
