Hollyoaks to continue Ro alcohol story after New Year fallout

The teenager was hospitalised over New Year.

Hollyoaks spoilers follow for the next two weeks of episodes.

Note: This article discusses themes of alcoholism.

Ro Hutchinson’s alcohol storyline will continue on Hollyoaks following the fallout over the festive period.

Ro has turned to drink in recent weeks, with the youngster being caught with a bottle of wine at school as he drank with Arlo, who has been unkind to him.

Diane was subsequently informed of the incident involving her son, and prepared to tell Tony about the situation. After seeing the wine bottle on the table, Tony incorrectly assumed that Diane had been the one drinking, and offered to support her.

Rather than telling him the truth, Diane let Tony comfort her in a bid to bring them back together following their separation, an act of deception that gave Ro the opportunity to carry on drinking without being caught.

In scenes set to air over the New Year period, Ro will take the drastic measure of stealing alcohol from The Dog, causing a rift between Tony and Diane. The latter subsequently finds the bottles in her son’s room.

With Diane still not revealing the truth to Tony, Ro remarks that she is merely lying to garner sympathy and attention, neglecting her son’s needs in the process. This leads to disaster on New Year’s Eve, with Ro being hospitalised after being found unconscious in his bedroom.

After Ro makes a recovery, Tony deduces that Diane had been lying about her relapse, with January 6’s scenes seeing the character move out of The Dog as he takes Ro with him to the Lomax household.

He continues to support Ro, an act which draws jealousy from Arlo. He taunts Ro regarding his alcohol problem, and concocts a plan to have him caught red-handed. With Tony and Marie away, Ro begins to drink booze in the house.

Arlo spitefully messages Tony and Marie about Ro’s actions, with the pair walking in as the teenager drinks a can of gin. Will Ro be able to get the help he needs?…

Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.
