“She might be on the rebound!”

Hollyoaks star Drew Cain has confirmed that Diane Hutchinson will strike up a romantic connection with his character DI Banks.

Diane split from husband Tony during the Channel 4 soap’s one-year time jump, with Tony beginning a relationship with Marie Fielding in the ensuing weeks.

While the estranged pair were brought back together when their son Ro had begun drinking, Tony moved out of the family home after discovering that Diane had used the opportunity to get closer to him by lying and saying she was the one who had relapsed.

Cain – whose character DI Banks has appeared on the soap infrequently over the years but will feature more prominently this year – has now revealed that Diane will find a new love interest in Banks after realising it’s “time to move on” from Tony.

“Diane was hoping to rekindle things with Tony, but has realised it’s time to move on,” he teased during an interview with Inside Soap.

“There is a connection between her and Banks, but it’s early days. And she might be on the rebound!”

Elsewhere, the actor revealed that Banks will team up with Donny Clark when he joins the force.

“Donny is definitely the good cop in the partnership,” he explained. “He’s more caring, whereas Banks is a grumpy old git!

“Obviously there’s loads of crime in the village and Banks has Grace Black in his sights. He sent her down for armed robbery not long ago and doesn’t believe that she’s turned over a new leaf. He’ll also be keeping an eye on her younger brother, Rex…”

Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.
