He receives some bad news.
Hollyoaks spoilers follow for Tuesday’s episode (September 24), which is available to watch now on streaming service Channel 4 and hasn’t yet aired on TV.
Hollyoaks has confirmed a shock diagnosis for JJ Osborne ahead of his abuse trial in the show’s latest episode.
Following the show’s recent time jump, JJ was awaiting trial for sexually abusing his sister Frankie – after Frankie told the police about her ordeal.
This week, JJ came face to face with his sister and begged her to change her statement, but Frankie was disgusted when he used their late mum Suzanne to plead his case.
Jack tried to appeal to JJ to plead guilty at his hearing, by talking about his experience of committing accidental manslaughter in the past.
In today’s episode, JJ’s plea hearing arrives, but Frankie only returned home in the morning – having been out all night drinking.
Darren was concerned about his daughter, but Jack was more positive and told Frankie that he thinks he finally got through to JJ and persuaded him to plead guilty.
At court, JJ asked Jack if pleading guilty would lead to a lighter sentence, and then wanted to know what prison was like.
As he feared life behind bars as a convicted sex offender, JJ still seemed conflicted about how to plead.
Meanwhile, Leah came to see Frankie outside court, and the two friends said an emotional goodbye before she left for university.
Jack found JJ staggering out of the toilets in court, and as Jack asked if he had taken something, JJ suddenly collapsed.
JJ was taken away in an ambulance, and Frankie reluctantly agreed that the family should go to the hospital with him.
She was convinced that JJ was faking his illness to get out of facing court, but Jack commented that he didn’t look right.
At the hospital, Nancy, Jack and Frankie sat at JJ’s bedside. When JJ woke up, he told Frankie that he was going to plead guilty before his collapse, but she didn’t believe him.
As Frankie angrily confronted her brother, Darren entered the room with Misbah and delivered some shocking news about JJ’s test results.
“JJ, I’m really sorry,” Darren said, “You’ve got leukaemia.”
What will this diagnosis mean for JJ, and what will it mean for Frankie’s quest for justice?
