Hollyoaks 2025 trailer: Mercedes’ health setback, Dodger returns and JJ court twist

Hollyoaks have released a brand-new trailer for 2025 as the walls close in on Abe Fielding, Frankie Osborne’s case against twin JJ goes to trial and Mercedes McQueen’s health declines

Hollyoaks has released a thrilling new trailer to kick off the New Year, with storylines reaching dramatic climaxes. Abe Fielding (played by Tyler Conti) finds himself in a tight spot, while Frankie Osborne’s (portrayed by Isabella Smith) case against her twin JJ Osborne (Ryan Mulvey) heads to court.

Meanwhile, Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe) battles health issues during her chemotherapy treatment, and fans get a sneak peek at Mark (Dodger) Savage’s (Danny Mac) comeback. The controversial storyline involving sibling sexual abuse, where teenager Frankie was abused by her twin brother JJ, reaches a significant turning point as the trial begins this January.

Frankie courageously takes the stand to recount the traumatic events of the past few years, but the trailer reveals a complex case for the jury and distress for the family as JJ reneges on his promise and accuses Frankie of being a habitual liar. Darren Osborne (Ashley Taylor-Dawson), Frankie’s protective father, is filled with rage when JJ’s defence questions Frankie’s credibility.

As Cleo McQueen (Nadine Mulkerrin) wakes up in hospital knowing the truth and Peri Lomax (Ruby O’Donnell) opens up to her family after an assault, the villagers finally see the reality. A desperate Abe hits rock bottom when he forces his suspicious mother Marie Fielding (Rita Simon) into a car.

Mercedes, believing that there’s no end to Abe’s abuse, suggests to his victims that they have only one option left – to kill him. Meanwhile, Mercedes’ health deteriorates as she contracts an infection while undergoing chemotherapy for bowel cancer, leading her family, including her mother Myra McQueen (Nicole Barber-Lane), to rally around her at home, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The trailer also gives a sneak peek of Danny Mac returning to his iconic role as Dodger, who is back in the village lurking in the shadows. But what has changed during his absence?

With a new father and grandmother to meet, and Sienna Blake’s (Anna Passey) deadly secret yet to be revealed, what will Dodger find out? The criminal underworld of Hollyoaks village needs to be on high alert as Donny Clark (Louis Emerick) rejoins the police force.

And he’s not the only one. After a brawl in the village results in Dodger’s arrest, it’s revealed in an exclusive scene that he’s an undercover cop and his cover has been blown. The trailer shows Mark hanging out with Rex Gallagher (Jonny Labey), but what exactly is he investigating?

Grace Black (Tamara Wall) reclaims control, reminding herself and her brother that they are the offspring of infamous villain Fraser Black and won’t be pushed around. Sporting a fresh look and a ruthless attitude, Grace re-enters the world of crime.

JJ Osborne appears in court

Sienna is set to make a shocking confession when Dilly Harcourt (Emma Johnsey-Smith) confronts her about Ethan Williams’ death. The trailer also teases Sienna making moves on Dilly’s boyfriend Prince McQueen (Malique Thompson-Dwyer), but what could be her motive for targeting her cousin’s beau?

In another twist, Robbie Roscoe ( Charlie Wernham ) is thrilled at the prospect of fatherhood, while Freddie Roscoe (Charlie Clapham) is shocked to learn that Vicky Grant (Anya Lawrence) is still carrying his child – will he reveal the truth to his brother?

Meanwhile, Tony Hutchinson ( Nick Pickard ) is leading the festivities for the grand reopening of The Hutch, with the dream team reunited as former employee Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) returns. And could there be romance in the air again as Cleo and Joel Dexter (Rory Douglas-Speed) seem to be moving in for a kiss?

Hollyoaks airs Monday to Wednesday on E4 at 7pm and first look episodes can be streamed Channel 4 from 7am
