Former Emmerdale and Strictly Come Dancing star Gemma Atkinson has been left heartbroken
Former Hollyoaks and Emmerdale actress Gemma Atkinson was left heartbroken as she updated her followers on a personal loss. The ex-Strictly Come Dancing favourite took to social media to announce the death of her beloved dog Ollie.
She paid a touching tribute to her canine companion, recalling Ollie’s bond with her other dog, Norman, who passed away just months earlier. The Hits Radio host has been dealing with the grief of losing Norman and now faces fresh sorrow with Ollie’s departure due to old age.
Last week, after receiving the distressing news from her vet, Gemma spent precious time with Ollie, and on Tuesday (December 10), she informed her two million Instagram fans of his passing. In an emotional post filled with pictures and memories, the Bury-born star shared her pain, writing: “Sleep well beautiful Ollie. The most gentle, affectionate and loving soul. We knew deep down after Norman you wouldn’t wait long because you were inseparable and I know how much you must have missed him.”
She reflected on the loyalty and companionship she enjoyed with her dogs for over 14 years, feeling grateful for the experience, as she added: “The loyalty, love and companionship of 2 dogs for 14 years. How lucky I am to have had that.”
“Before Gorka, Mia and Tio it was just us, spending many a weekend in bed with a movie after a long walk exploring. And when our family expanded you shared your love and loyalty without hesitation, because that’s what dogs do.”, reports the Express.
Gemma emotionally added: “The sadness of losing you both so close together is a lot, but I know you’re both somewhere running free in long grass or on a beach chasing the tide care free, pain free and happy. That’s what I’m taking comfort in right now. I’ll remember you for the rest of my life. Norman and Ollie. My 2 best boys. Reunited.”
On Wednesday morning (December 11), Gemma expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of support during this difficult time. She said: “I just want to say thank you for all your lovely messages.”
“It’s been a tough few days but in-between all that we’ve had Mia’s nativity, Christmas jumper day and today’s it’s our Mission Christmas Cash for Kids headquarters day so I’ve been really busy which is good.”
Reflecting on the challenging period and looking forward, she continued: “Gorka’s back on Sunday which will be nice but thank you for your messages. It’s been tough but thankfully, I’m busy.”
She added: “Thank you for being so kind. I’m looking forward to Gorka being home as I can get in a routine again. Gorka’s home soon so that’ll be a massive help. I can get back to my daily ice baths, training and just prioritise some self care for a while.”
“I’ve kind of been cracking on, running on auto pilot. Life goes on, we have to keep moving especially when we have kids to show up for. ‘m gonna keep all Norman and Ollie’s toys for a while in the playroom and their beds. Sending lots of love to anyone who’s going through the loss of a pet. It’s horrible. But it’s the price we have to pay for loving them so much.”
