Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) worries her hopes for the future may be shattered when her past behaviour comes back to bite her in upcoming Coronation Street scenes.
In yesterday’s episode, Evelyn was furious when Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) damaged the backgammon set Roy Cropper (David Neilson) gifted her for Christmas.
In retaliation, she sent him a letter revealing that she planned to take him to small claims court, leaving him gobsmacked.
Later this week, Steve calls in Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) for legal advice, and ends up agreeing to pay Evelyn the £325 she insists he owes her.
However, when Evelyn reveals that she wrote the letter herself and pretended it was from a solicitor, Alya is amused and later invites her to a criminal law lecture.
Keen to attend, Evelyn steals someone else’s name badge from the meet and greet table – something that she could come to regret…
In upcoming scenes, Evelyn begins to complain that her life lacks purpose, which prompts bestie Roy to suggest she apply to do a law degree.
After some consideration, Evelyn fills out an online application for university, confiding in Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) that she’s applied to read law.
However, when she receives a text inviting her for an interview for the course, she is thrown into a panic.
Heading into the interview, she is shocked to come face-to-face with Marjorie Tavistock – the woman she previously impersonated!
Will Evelyn’s petty crime destroy her chance of getting a law degree?
Recently, it was announced that actress Maureen Lipman would be cutting back on her contracted hours at the ITV soap, instead stepping into a recurring role.
Could this suggest that Evelyn is set to head off to university after all?
‘Roy sees potential in Evelyn, he sees that she’s more than just a pretty face’ Maureen revealed to The Sun. ‘But he’s sort of the architect of what happens to me over the next few months.
‘The best thing that could happen is a series about Evelyn going to university. Can you imagine if all the students start dressing like Evelyn?
‘I’ll be absent for a while, and then coming back.
‘I’m not going to die but then I’ll be in and out of it because I want to have a bit of a life.’
