Emmerdale detective DS Foy has struck a chord with fans – but it turns out the actor who plays him has a link to the ITV soap that many viewers didn’t notice
Emmerdale’s latest addition to the police force, DS Foy, has been winning over viewers with many calling for him to become a fixture on the show.
DS Foy is currently working on Belle and Tom King’s intense storyline, where Belle hit her spouse with an axe in self-defence after enduring prolonged domestic abuse. She later spilled the beans to the authorities.
Out on bail, Belle had no choice but to reveal the extent of the abuse to the police, which led Tom to try and erase all traces of his wrongdoing. However, DS Foy isn’t easily fooled and has shown he’s onto Tom’s deceitful ways.
Robert Cavanah, who brings DS Foy to life, isn’t new to Emmerdale fans; he previously graced the show as Ian Chamberlain, Val Pollard’s fling, from January to April 2014.
The seasoned actor, Robert, has a rich TV history, including a stint as Tommy in EastEnders back in 2004, roles in BBC’s Doctors, The Royal, and even shared the screen with Angelina Jolie in the Lara Croft: Tomb Raider sequel, reports the Mirror.
But it’s not just his acting gigs that have caught the audience’s attention; Robert also featured in a Staysure travel insurance advert that irked some viewers enough to vent their frustration online. One viewer expressed their disapproval with a ‘nope’ GIF, while another demanded: “And then there’s that Staysure advert on telly with COVID 19 cover that needs either ditching or updating.”
Someone else quipped: “They need to do a remake of the Staysure advert…” while another person vented: “Very annoying advert.”
Yet, Robert’s portrayal as DS Foy in the show has fans buzzing with approval on Reddit. One fan enthused: “How much do we love DS Foy?! Finally a policeman who can actually do his job in a soap!!!”
Another viewer was impressed by the character’s savvy moves: “Played Tom like a fiddle. ‘Oh, you set up a camera? Well, it might’ve recorded Belle abusing you then!’ Daamn, had him sh***ing his pants! ” Meanwhile, a third admirer cheekily dubbed DS Foy a “daddy”.
