Emmerdale’s Michael Parr reveals TV legend he would cast as Nana Barton

Ross Barton’s (Michael Parr) return has been excellent, hasn’t it? Near death experiences, clashing with Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb), and a whole heap of controversy in Emmerdale. So juicy.

He made a bombshell reappearance being revealed as Billy Fletcher’s (Jay Kontzle) opponent in the illegal boxing ring, and then caused quite the stir when he nearly shot son Moses with the shotgun.

He’s ruffling feathers left right and centre, with Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) at the forefront of the group wanting him gone, and Caleb Miligan (William Ash) not far behind after Ross tried to thieve a load of his wares. His enemies are mounting, so Ross needs some allies.

And man does Mike Parr know exactly who Emmerdale bosses should call on to help him out. First up he advocated for the return of his brother Pete (Anthony Quinlan), but he also has designs on Emmerdale finally casting his grandmother Nana Barton.

Now Nana Barton is a mythical creature who has been referenced many times over the years, but never seen. Despite all of the death and destruction the Barton family suffered, Nana never popped up to support. But could she finally get a face? She will if Mike has anything to do with it.

It could be a controversial one, given Moira’s (Natalie J Robb) current turmoil with her brain tumour. Nana has never been a massive fan of her once daughter- in-law after Moira cheated on her son John.

But Moira has remained loyal over the years and even visited her former mother-in-law to take care of her when she was sick. So Nana’s would be quite the appearance for Moira too.

Having outlived quite a few members of her family, Nana will likely be hardened and cold, so it would take the right person to play her – and Mike Parr has the best idea for who that should be.

Intending on manifesting his thoughts, Mike said: ‘There was this mythological Barton character called Nana Barton and I would love it – this is not happening, but Sue Johnson, please come to Emmerdale.’

Never say never, Mike. Sue, you’d better be reading this, get on the phone to the show bosses pronto. Mike reckons you’d be just the right amount of evil, and we’ve got to say we tend to agree.

He added: ‘It would be my dream to work with you after watching you for so many years on Brookside and The Royle Family and stuff.

‘I think she’s probably busy getting offers left, right and centre but if I could cast anybody to play a character that hasn’t been in the show – evil Nana Barton. Or maybe not evil – maybe she’s lovely!’

Anyone got Sue’s number?
