Emmerdale’s Daisy Campbell could be set for a stint on a rival soap following her shock axe
Emmerdale’s Daisy Campbell might be heading to a competing soap after her unexpected departure from the show.
Rising to prominence as Amelia Spencer on ITV soap, she first graced our screens in 2011. Over time, Daisy has been at the centre of numerous high-profile storylines.
Currently, her character is entangled with villainous abuser Tom King (portrayed by James Chase). Audiences haven’t forgotten how Tom previously mistreated his spouse Belle Dingle (played by Eden Taylor-Draper) earlier this year, an ordeal that resulted in Belle’s exit from the series.
However, in a shock twist this October, the producers decided to phase out Amelia. Reflecting on this move, Daisy, aged 21, confided to the Mirror: “It wasn’t my choice to leave Emmerdale and it was a shock at first.”
The young actress then expressed: “Being in Emmerdale is all I have ever known. I’ve spent the whole of my childhood growing up in the soap and it felt daunting.”, reports Leeds Live. Additionally, Daisy put to rest any fears about her character’s fate, stating: “I am pleased the door is being left open. But I can’t say too much about how she leaves.”
With her era on Emmerdale coming to an end, a PR guru has remarked on Daisy’s “exciting next chapter in her career”, highlighting the opportunity for her to snag a part on another major soap.
Dom Aldworth, Head of Brand Marketing at Slingo, shared his insights, suggesting a move to another British soap would be a seamless transition for the actress, particularly if she aims to expand her already growing fanbase.
He pointed out that Hollyoaks could be an excellent choice due to its “youthful” vibe and “high-energy storylines would give her room to dive into an edgier, more complex role”.
He also mentioned that Emmerdale’s rival soap Coronation Street could be a fitting stage for her talents: “Coronation Street’ might be another great option, letting her join an iconic family or bring new drama to the cobbles.”
Furthermore, Dom proposed that “EastEnders” could be a potential platform for her to delve into more serious themes: “Or, she could even bring her intensity to ‘EastEnders’, where she’d get to explore more of the hard-hitting social issues and emotional narratives the show is known for,” he added.
Yet, Dom didn’t rule out the possibility of Amelia stepping away from soaps altogether, as he noted she could “break out of the soap world entirely”. Elaborating on this, he said: “Maybe taking on drama series or even trying her hand at theatre to showcase new sides of her talent.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
