Emmerdale’s Martelle Edinborough – who played Suzy Merton – could be set to make a return to screens as part of a rival soap
Emmerdale Suzy Merton star Martelle Edinborough could be set for a stint on a rival soap.
The actress shot to fame playing Suzy – making her debut back in 2022. And it didn’t take her long to become a firm favourite with fans, as well as play a part in several big storylines.
Most famously, she was in a relationship with Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick). The pair became a beloved couple – but they had their fair share of obstacles, including Suzy’s drug past.
However, over on the soap this this week, fans were left devastated when Suzy was killed off during a shock stunt. Viewers watched with their jaws on the floor as two limos, filled with 17 villagers, crashed – leaving them all in danger.
But it was the ladies limo that ended up getting plunged into an icy lake. And in a tragic turn of events, the crash resulted in the death of Suzy who hit her head on the roof of the vehicle.
Confirming her exit on X, Martelle wrote: “And just like that….Suzy is no more and a new chapter begins!! What an ep! It’s been such a blessing to have been a part of such an iconic show that I grew up on and loved by so many!!”
Now, with Martelle no longer at Emmerdale, it seems a stint on a rival soap could just be around the corner. In exclusive odds provided by Betway, the booked have chalked up Martelle at 4/1 odds to join another soap.
“Martelle has a track record of sticking to scripted drama, having previously appeared in Coronation Street and Hollyoaks. With EastEnders the last major soap she hasn’t tackled, a trip to Albert Square is priced up at 4/1!” said Betway spokesperson Mike Reading.
What’s more, PR expert Dom Aldworth, Head of Brand Marketing at Slingoalso claimed that amid a “new chapter in her career,“ Martelle “moving to another soap would be a logical next step.”
He told us: “As a fan favourite in the genre, she could take on a fresh challenge in EastEnders, where she could explore bold new storylines and tackle real-life issues with greater depth.
“On the other hand, she may choose to leave the soap world behind entirely, perhaps pursuing a drama series or even a film career.”
He explained: “Having previously featured in the dark comedy short film ‘The Tooth Fairy’ in 2020, this experience could open the door for her to take on more roles in this genre.
“No matter where she goes next, her time in Emmerdale has paved the way for exciting opportunities, and fans will be eager to follow her journey.”
