Kim Tate star Claire King has opened up about a potential ‘last ever Christmas’ for the Emmerdale legend amid a big storyline at Home Farm this Christmas
Claire King has teased this could be Kim Tate’s last ever Christmas on Emmerdale.
The matriarch of the Tates, Kim has become an icon over her three decades on the soap. Married to Will Taylor, things seemed to be going very well until Will ended up cheating on Kim with his ex Rose. Then the arrival of Peter, who is Kim’s former solicitor and her ex, caused even more trouble as Will has been working with him and a mystery person to bring Kim down.
The pair are planning to have a vow renewal for Christmas Day, with Will being manipulated into organising it to bring Kim down in front of all her family and friends – but will he go through with it?
Speaking on This Morning today, Claire explained what’s ahead for her character. She said: “It’s been a little bit challenging with this storyline. It’s been lovely because I love working with Dean. So that’s been fantastic but it’s been a little bit hard because of the subject matter and things. But I can’t go into that! I know, I’m desperate to tell you but I’ll be shot.
“Will’s plotting with Peter, who was Kim’s financial adviser. I don’t think he is anymore, I haven’t seen him in a while. But there’s someone else pulling the strings behind. Kim had a little dalliance with Peter to get back at Will, who had a fling with his ex-wife. It’s all very interwoven and very complicated – but there’s someone behind the scenes who is pulling the strings and they want to give the surprise on Christmas Day. Kim’s looking forward to Christmas Day because she’s going to have all her family back, they’re going to renew their wedding vows – so it’s all going to be really lovely.”
However, Claire has teased that this could be Kim’s last Christmas on the soap.
Asked whether she’d be sticking around on the soap, she quipped: “My contract runs out in June and if they decide to keep me on and I decide to accept, then I might be here longer. But at the moment, yes this is her last Christmas.”
For now though, Kim will no doubt be hellbent on revenge – and having killed before, could someone else find themselves spending their very last Christmas at Home Farm or in the Emmerdale village?
Warning Kim will be angry when she finds out what has been going on behind the back, she said: “I don’t think there is a word for how angry she will be. She’s going to be positively rampantly livid. I think she will want retaliation very quickly.”
