Emmerdale actor Mark Charnock – who plays Marlon Dingle – has shared his biggest regret in a new storyline as fans fume over his character in recent scenes

Mark Charnock has shared his character’s biggest regret on Emmerdale.

Marlon Dingle is a stalwart of the Emmerdale village but he is embroiled in a brand new storyline with daughter April Windsor. April ran away after finding out she was pregnant, and as a result, their relationship has been fractured.

Whilst she has now returned to the Dales, things aren’t great and Dylan’s arrival has left Marlon puzzled. Dylan was sent away from the village but Marlon was informed that Dylan had been hospitalised after a suspected overdose, with Marlon having set Dylan up.

Speaking about the upcoming storyline, Mark told The Mirror and other press: “He immediately regrets it. He went blind with trying to get rid of him. He didn’t think of the consequences. He should have thought before he jumped and and he regrets it immediately especially hearing Dylan has an overdose, which is the most crushing piece of news and Marlon is responsible for that overdose really.

“I think he knows that so his immediate reaction is he’s got to try and square it and make it up to him. He feels awful. When the kids come back, that’s when the next incredibly equally difficult second act begins.”

Discussing the storyline in length, he added: “You’ve had the horror of them not being there, you find them and now it’s the indescribable confusion trying to understand what they are now, which is a different person to when they left the house.”

It comes amid fans fuming at Marlon for his behaviour with April since her return to the village.

“Marlon is a horrible helicopter dad. He wants to control April and she is misguided. April needs professional help and Marlon got to back off,” one wrote, whilst another added: “Is Marlon seriously going to let that kid take the rap for this? #emmerdale.”

A third shared: “Marlon should own up. It’s not fair on Dylan. #Emmerdale,” with a fourth writing: “I am sick to the back teeth of Marlon #emmerdale.” A fifth penned: “what on earth is going on in marlon’s head like genuinely #emmerdale.”

Marlon star Mark heaped praise on the young actor that plays Dylan. Speaking about Fred Kettle, he said: “I say this as objectively as I can, he’s one of the best young actors that I’ve worked with.

“He puts me in mind of many of the great young actors we’ve got on this. He’s really into his job, he’s nuanced, he’s clever, he’s attentive, he’s really professional, he’s one of the team, he’s funny, he’s everything you could want in a young actor. As far as I’m concerned, if he doesn’t go a long way there’s something wrong with the business. He’s a really good actor.”
