Emmerdale Sarah Sugden star Katie Hill breaks silence on soap future after eight years

Emmerdale actress Katie Hill has opened up about her time on the ITV soap playing Sarah Sugden, teasing that fans will see a lot more of the character’s ‘Dingle side’ in the coming months

Emmerdale’s Katie Hill, who plays Sarah Sugden, has teased an exhilarating year ahead for her character.

Stepping into the role in 2017, Katie has become the fifth actress to portray the daughter of Debbie Dingle (Charley Webb) and Andy Sugden (Kelvin Fletcher).

Reflecting on her time in the soap, Katie couldn’t pinpoint a single favourite storyline but expressed her excitement about embracing Sarah’s Dingle heritage more this year.

Katie shared her enthusiasm for the upcoming storylines, saying, “You’ll see a lot more of that this year and doing fun things like that is what I enjoy the most. I’ve enjoyed all the stuff you’re going to see this year.”

Sarah has been central to some intense plots, including her battle with Fanconi anemia (FA), which raised fears about her longevity compared to other villagers.

Discussing her character’s journey, Katie remarked, “I think throughout my time of playing Sarah she’s had moments where she goes a bit reckless and she sort of thinks ‘I don’t know how my life is going to pan out’ so I’m going to live life however I want.”, reports Leicestershire Live.

She added, “She sometimes forgets that it might come with a few consequences but it plays a part in way she sometimes is reckless sometimes. I’m enjoying some of the stuff showing her more vulnerable side but she’s such a fun character to play.”

In future episodes, viewers can expect Sarah to form a connection with the enigmatic new arrival Kammy, portrayed by Shebz Miah, after an encounter involving a stolen quad bike.

Sarah, savvy as ever, quickly realises the quad bike is stolen, leaving Kammy surprised when she not only covers for him but also wants a piece of his racket. Before long, the pair are tearing across fields on stolen quad bikes.

But what will Jacob Gallagher, played by Joe-Warren Plant, make of this budding friendship?

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 at 7.30pm and available to stream from 7am on ITVX
