Emmerdale star Dominic Brunt, who plays Paddy Kirk on the ITV hit, has said he wants to keep going as long as he can and even emulate Ken Barlow star Bill Roache, who kept going into his 90s
Dominic Brunt hopes he’ll be on Emmerdale until he’s in his 90s.
The actor loves playing loveable Paddy Kirk on the ITV soap. So far he’s racked up a whopping 27 years in the village and he wants to keep going for as long as possible.
He said: “I never thought I’d be on the show for this long. I originally signed up to do eight episodes. But I think they forgot to write me out.
“I can see myself staying for as long as Ken Barlow. Why not? I used to sell towels on market stalls and I was a welder.
“I know the difference between a good job and a bad job. Being on Emmerdale is a good job and I love it. My contract is renewed a year at a time – when they ask me to stay, it’s flattering.
“And it’s always an easy decision to keep doing the show. I don’t think about it, I just sign it.”
Dominic loves his job thanks to co-star Lisa Riley, who plays his screen wife Mandy Dingle.
He added: “Me and Lisa are great friends. She is the funniest person. I just love working with her.
“Every day I’m whistling and skipping into work. I love it. I love the stories. When I get the script, I read it from front to back. I’m a fan of the show.”
