Emmerdale’s Manpreet Sharma has been blackmailed on the soap recently, leaving the village doctor devastated

Emmerdale was full of more dramatic scenes on Wednesday night amid Manpreet Sharma’s blackmail storyline.

Only recently, Manpreet confided in Ella Forster that she was being blackmailed after posting photos of herself online and joining a subscription website.

After opening up, Ella encouraged her to delete her account but just seconds after deactivating the blackmailer text again saying: “Deleting your profile won’t make a difference” as they sent screenshots of her account, adding: “One word to the police and everyone will know your secret.”

On Wednesday night, which is available to watch now on ITV X, Manpreet continued to worry about the blackmailer especially when she had lunch with Ella in the village and received a text from her stalker warning they were watching her.

Soap watchers have been left suspicious of Ella, especially due to her criminal past, but other viewers have pointed out that all of the texts so far were sent while Ella was sat next to Manpreet, seemingly ruling her out of blackmail.

Talking about the dramatic storyline on Wednesday’s This Morning, soap expert Sharon Marshall teased: “So I can confirm it is somebody in the village… a few little twist and turns coming up on that one!”

Social media is currently buzzing with theories over the mystery blackmailer with fans certain that Wendy Posner, Manpreet’s former workmate who left the village under the cloud of being blackmailed herself earlier this year, is behind it all.

One viewer theorised: “I think Manpreet blackmailer is another victim of blackmail. I think it’s Wendy trying to get back at the surgery!” prompting others to echo the name “Wendy!”

However, others think it could be Tracy Metcalfe as it was recently revealed that she is strapped for cash and on Wednesday night she walked past Manpreet’s lunch with Ella.

One viewer speculated: “Tracey who needs money”, while another chimed in with: “I think Tracey too. Wendy’s left now and I doubt she would do that it’s someone desperate for cash” and yet another suggested: “Tracy. She knows about that type of work and she needs the cash.”

The theories come amid hints that Paula Lane’s character, troubled Ella, might be exiting the show soon. A recent update on the actress’ Spotlight page indicates that she will wrap up filming for the soap in February 2025.

The ‘about me’ section of Paula’s profile states: “Currently appearing as series regular Ella in Emmerdale ITV filming until February 2025.”

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
