Emmerdale icon reveals lie he told on-screen partner to bring her back to ITV soap

Emmerdale’s Dominic Brunt, who plays Paddy Kirk in the ITV soap, has opened up about the lie he told Lisa Riley in order to get her to return to the soap

Emmerdale star Dominic Brunt has disclosed the lie he spun to his co-star Lisa Riley in a bid to coax her back to the show.

Dominic, who plays Paddy Kirk, is set to walk down the aisle with Mandy Dingle, portrayed by Lisa, in upcoming episodes this week. But their on-screen matrimony is under threat as Paddy uncovers Mandy’s clandestine occupation as a Findom, a financial dominatrix.

With their soap wedding hanging in the balance, Dominic has confessed his off-screen camaraderie with Lisa and how he concocted a tale to entice her back to Emmerdale after she took a hiatus from 2001 to 2019.

During his appearance on ITV’s Loose Women on Wednesday (August 14), Dominic was probed about the untruth he told Lisa. Panelist Denise Welsh asked: “Of course, as well as Paddy and Mandy, you and the lovely Lisa are great friends in real life. Of course you are, and when she left for a time you tried to lure her back but you told her a little porky to her didn’t you to get her back? “.

Dominic conceded: “Yeah, I just told an outright lie. She said: ‘Is it still full on? ‘ I think we were filming two or three episodes at the point when she left and I was like ‘It’s calm and you can be busy and then can go quiet’ and then two years on, she was going ‘you lied to me’. I just wanted her back because I really missed her.”, reports the Manchester Evening News.

In the village, Mandy has taken up financial domination (findom) work under the pseudonym ‘Madame Diamante Dales’, accepting money and gifts from men online.

She made this decision to pay off her debts before her wedding with Paddy, who is oblivious to both her findom work and her financial troubles.

However, as their wedding day approaches, Paddy is about to discover Mandy’s secret after his father Bear Wolf eavesdrops on one of her online conversations. Will Paddy still proceed with the wedding or will it be another failed marriage for the couple?

Opening up about the storyline and Paddy’s reaction to Mandy’s betrayal, Dominic said: “There’s enough drama between the two of them because they’re such different people that even if they’re married forever they’re still going to be falling out and bickering all the time.”

“He really lays it on thick, ‘I really loved Mandy and I really trusted her with my life’. He is a bit of a wet blanket. I quite like him, though.”

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
