Emmerdale viewers were left questioning if Suzy Merton had another woman she was secretly seeing amid a kiss with Mary Goskirk, after Vanessa Woodfield found some text messages

There was a bombshell discovery on Emmerdale for one character on Wednesday night.

But the scene left some fans a bit confused and wondering if there was more going on than we knew about. Viewers know that Mary Goskirk was hiding a big secret recently, and a flashback gave away what it was.

After the death of Suzy Merton during the limo crash, Mary was supporting Suzy’s girlfriend Vanessa Woodfield through her grief. But it seems she was hiding her own turmoil, as a flashback clip showed Mary and Suzy having an awkward conversation.

The day she died, Suzy was confiding in Mary before admitting something she had not told anyone. Suzy revealed she liked Mary a lot more than as a friend, admitting she had feelings for her and even wanted to be with her.

She made it clear Vanessa wasn’t the one for her and hinted she wanted to leave her to pursue things with Mary, who felt the same about Suzy. The pair shared a kiss only to be spotted by Leyla Harding.

Neither of the three told Vanessa the truth, with Leyla and Suzy now dead and Mary acting like nothing happened. There were never any scenes between Suzy and Mary prior to the flashback that indicated Suzy didn’t want to be with Vanessa, or that she and Mary could get together.

On Wednesday things took a turn when Vanessa went through Suzy’s text messages, and found a conversation between Leyla and Suzy. In said chat Leyla urged her friend not to throw away her relationship with Vanessa based off “one kiss”.

She urged Suzy to consider her future with Vanessa, with Suzy then commenting on her true feelings. Vanessa soon told Mary what she had seen, revealing that she’d found out Suzy was planning to leave her for someone else.

Vanessa then accused Suzy of having an affair with another woman, believing Suzy never truly loved her. Of course Leyla’s message was seemingly about her kiss with Mary that she saw.

But given that’s all it was and there was no affair, and the fact we saw no lead-up other than scenes around a year earlier, some fans wondered if there was someone else Suzy was seeing other than Mary. Taking to social media, some fans predicted that Suzy could have been enjoying a secret romance with another mystery woman.

One fan posted: “Wouldn’t it be a great twist, unlikely, but if Mary WASN’T the other woman and there was someone else. Again unlikely, but given Mary and Suzy were not having an affair like Vanessa has suggested imagine the shock if there was someone else involved.”

A second fan added: “The last few episodes I’ve almost felt like they’ve been over doing with Vanessa’s has grief. I know it’s to build up the Suzy/Mary reveal but we hardly saw their relationship. Did Suzy/Vanessa as a couple even have a fan base?”

Another fan commented: “I’m a bit confused about the whole thing cos we never saw this ‘relationship’ between Mary and Suzy, we barely even saw one between Vanessa and Suzy. I know we saw that kiss but other than that, there wasn’t anything so what if the texts were about someone else? If Vanessa thinks Suzy was having a full blown affair it can’t have been with Mary, so maybe she was having an affair with another woman?!”
