Emmerdale’s PC Mike Swirling has been a regular on the soap for two decades – but fans are certain he’s about to strike up a romance with a beloved villager
Emmerdale fans have ‘figured out’ PC Mike Swirling’s new love interest.
The copper, played by Andy Moore, has been on the ITV soap since 2004, making him one of the longest-serving recurring characters. And over the years, he has often been seen dealing with the village’s various misdemeanours.
As a result, PC Swirling has become well-known in the village and many residents, particularly the Dingle clan. Just this week, he ended up arresting Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley).
Fans will recall how Cain has been struggling, and spiralling, since wife Moira (Natalie J Robb) was diagnosed with a meningioma brain tumour diagnosis this year. Cain even ended up cheating on Moira, with Ruby Fox-Miligan (Beth Cordingly), while Moira was having an operation.
Overcome with guilt, on Tuesday (December 10), Cain chose to miss Moira’s hospital appointment for the results of her recent surgery. He soon regretted his decision though.
As he raced back to the hospital to be there for Moira, he crashed into Jai Sharma’s (Chris Bisson) car. Later on, PC Swirling pulled Cain over – only for him to assault the copper and get whisked away in handcuffs.
At the police station, Cain begged Swirling to let him speak to Moira – and Swirling gave Cain some sympathy and eventually let him use his mobile phone to call her.
And while PC Swirling continues to pop up in the Dales, fans are certain he could strike up a romance with Kim Tate (Claire King). On an Emmerdale Facebook fan page, one person said: “When is Swirling becoming a main character then?”
Someone else wrote: “He should get with Kim!” A third chimed in: “She would eat him up, but I can see that.” Another mused: “He should be full-time as well, but definitely needs some romance.”
Off-screen, Swirling actor Andy Moore boasts an impressive acting career. His first foray into the world of soaps was back in 2005 with a brief role as a driver on Coronation Street, appearing in two episodes.
Fast forward to 2010, and he returned to the cobbles, this time stepping into the shoes of a photographer.But it’s not just Corrie that’s seen Andy’s talents; he’s also appeared in other hit series such as The Bill, The Royal, and Fred and Marv.
